Intel D945GTP motherboard no post no beep

My friend's Intel D945GTP socket 775 motherboard had the misfortune of being powered by an Antec SP-350 with Fuhjyuu caps. He said the power supply squealed for a couple of months, but the computer worked until recently.

By the time I got it, it won't post or beep. When I measured the 5V SB rail, it was 11V DC. I opened up the power supply and found 2 bloated 1000uF 10V caps on the 5V SB rail. I also changed out the 22uF 50V and the squealing stopped.

Now that the power supply works, but the D945GTP won't post.

    Symptoms
    =======

    - no beeps
    - no display
    - no POST

    Tests done so far
    ==========

Here is what I have tested so far and found. All resulted in no beeps and no POST.

    - all tests done below with the motherboard "bread boarded" (that is, out of the case sitting on a cardboard box)
    - installed new 3V battery (measures 3.33V DC on multimeter)
    - cleared CMOS battery by removing it for a hour and tried moving the clear CMOS jumper
    - tried to reflash BIOS by removing jumper and following Intel BIOS recovery instructions
    - all voltages on PSU are within spec
    - cannot turn the board on and off by shorting out the power sw pins (need to jumper green and black)
    - all voltages on the motherboard around the CPU, southbridge, and northbridge appear normal (1.3V around vcore, 1.8V DC around DIMM)
    - installed known working CPU
    - installed known working Kingston 512MB DDR2 memory
    - tried one DIMM in slot 1 and then slot 2 and get no beep
    - tried removing all DDR memory and I still get no beep
    - tried known working video adapter

    Questions
    ======

    1) Is the southbridge fried because I can't turn on board by shorting out the power sw pins?
    2) What parts of the motherboard might be fried due to the 11V DC on the 5V standby rail?

Re: Intel D945GTP motherboard no post no beep

Forgot to add that the 2 led post card I have shows nothing on the display other than the lights on for voltage (3.3, 5.0, and 12.0V DC).

Asus ROG Strix Scar G533qm with a G733qm Motherboard, can I modify the Bios to accept G533 Bios
      by glovecaps
      Hello,

I have a Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 (G533QM) that had a dead motherboard (Graphics card dead) and after trying to fix the motherboard with no success, I bit the bullet on a sale for a new motherboard. I ordered a motherboard for the 15 inch model which is the one that I have, and when the motherboard arrived it wasn't for a little while that I saw it was from the 17 inch model.

My question is, can I update the Bios on this G733 motherboard to a G533 Bios.

The reason for wanting to do this is that the keyboard isn't working as it should, and I think this...

Requesting assistance with 486 motherboard repair
      by Byte_76
I have a seemingly rare 486 motherboard which shows no signs of life.

The Motherboard is marked with the labels B887 / 8 / 9 AI, which seems to be a Mecer branded board.

With an AT power supply hooked up, the power supply turns on but the board does not post, there is no beep and there is nothing displayed on the post analyser card, whether it's plugged into a PCI slot or an ISA slot.

I found a thread on Vogons of someone else who had the same board in working condition.

What I've tried so far: (In each case, the symptoms remain unchanged as...

      HP Envy 17-3290NR 3D Blank Screen - motherboard Louis V1.1 6050A2489901
      by Archimedes
Subject is a blank screen issue in HP Envy 17-3290NR 3D version laptop with motherboard Louis V1.1 6050A2489901 MB-A02. Production year is 2012. This one is a 2nd hand motherboard which I could use it for few months only. Suddenly no output from the internal display and also no signal from HDMI port then Windows out of order after few boots.

Caps lock working normally and no HP's caps-lock warning blinks. Making a hard reset and replacing the RAM sticks or using different slots didn't help.

Fans are spinning. Blindly could install windows11 and got the device manager...

      ASUS P5GC-MX motherboard recap
      by momaka
Here’s another motherboard that needed a full recap: an ASUS P5GC-MX.
This one was gifted to me some years ago by user Pentium 4, along with a few other goodies. It actually came in working order with no bulging or leaking caps. However, I noted there were United Chemicon KZG caps everywhere on the motherboard. The CPU VRM output (CPU V_core) was the only exception: it had only 2x KZG. The rest was 6x UCC TMV 4V 680 uF caps… which aren’t any good news either.

So here is what the motherboard looked like with its original caps:

After updating motherboard capacitors, what to do next (Asrock K7VT2, SOLTEK SL-75FRN2L)
      by dragon3x
Hi, I have some 32 bits computer motherboards that need repair, as they fail to
      power on.

      Here are some examples :

(N.B. "capacitors" indicated here are electrolytic capacitors located in the onboard
      switching supply area).
      (N.B. #2 : I could not find a 3300 microF aluminum-polymer with a higher voltage
      than 6.3 V.)

1 - Motherboard #1 : this is an Asrock K7VT2 (socket A) that still works well. To put it on test
      I replaced capacitors with aluminum-polymer.
      3300 microF/6.3 V. x 4 replaced by 3300 microF/6.3 V. (KYOCERA...
