xfx 9600gt capacitor blown - plz help

hello guys, my xfx9600gt capacitor got blown . I came to know its sacon brand
    the specs are
    fz82
    1000uf
    6.3volt

The card is two years old which is out of warranty and had been working fine so far. One fine day, i got a white screen when my staff pulled the drawer of the table which lead to a slight shake and the screen went white. The pc hung and even the ctrl alt del keys and the numlock keys failed to work. So i had to cold restart the pc by pressing the reset button and everything ran normal for the following 2 days. Then when i unplugged the stereo cable from my sound card (which is age old yamaha 724 series) the same white screen showed up. So i suspected there might be a problem with the sound card which might have become loose from the pci slot but didnt take any action.

The next day while i was working with Tally , the screen blacked out and PC froze. So had to push reset button as keyb keys failed to work as before. After restarting i didnt get any display. So i removed the gfx card and the sound card the PC had been working fine till now.

I noticed that one of the card's capacitor with the above rating had gone blown up. Could this be a problem ?. Now i have replaced that blown cap with a taicon capacitor with the same rating. But i have no idea about the ESR or ripple rating and replaced it. Will this damage the card and/or the motherboard/other components ?. Replaced it just half an hour back and the card seems to work normal but have to observe it atleast for a couple of days .

I was shocked to see the Taicon brand enlisted under the bad capacitor mfrs list. Now i am very much worried. I was searching for panasonic ones and they arent available in my locality. Those which are available here are taicon, capxon, samxon, etc. I came to know that the samxon is a good unit and should have replaced it with that. I was told that the gfx cards with fz series are cheap seacon capacitors. I was under the wrong impression that the samxon and the seacon capacitors are deceptively similar and opted for the taicon brand.

Now what to do ?. Should i replace the TAICON with the SAMXON or use it until it dies and get the samxon thereafter ?.

Moreover when i mailed XFX, singapore (from where the card is purchased) they told that this issue can even be a result of failing GPU due to its age !!!???. Its only 2 yrs old . OMG . They ask 40SGD for diagonising this issue. I cannot afford this much just for diagonising this card and they didnt tell anything about the service charge.
Instead i can invest some extra bucks and buy a new card itself...

    So guys please help...

    thanx in advance

Sounds to me like you have several failures. You have no location listed so that isnt going to help as far as options go. Starting with the video card I would replace the cap with a better cap ESR as low or lower and Ripple as high or higher than what the orginal was, (If it was purchased in the USA you could have got the XFX double lifetime warranty but it wasnt so lets forget that and repair it). Second I think you might want to check you PSU and motherboard for badcaps.

IMO it cannot be an issue either witht he PSU or mobo. Because my PC works fine after removing the graphics card. But there may be an issue witht he sound card (its old) . Now i am running my pc with that graphics card (with the replaced taicon capacitor) but without the sound card. No issues so far. But i was told that i should have replaced with higher voltage like 10v. And is samxon a reliable brand ?. In my locality in cannot get panasonic. Only cheap ones are retailed here and mine is an underdeveloped country so the possibility of getting good components here is low.

So what do you think about the Taicon one ?. It is HD(M) series. If you want i cant post the specs of this capacitor

My PSU is corsair and mobo is asus m3n78em

The specs for FZ are posted in the forum in several places.

It's doubtful that an HD is adequate.

The higher end Samxon and RS are reliable.
GD, GC, GA and RS are well tested and good.
Some of the others have had problems but I forget which.

Blown capacitor repair on MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT MECH OC
              by MeetingIncapable
              Hello,

I am new to repairing computer electronics, so excuse any mistakes I make.

A friend of mine had a broken graphics card (MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT MECH OC) and gave it to me. It does not power on or show any signs of life.
I identified what looks like the remains of a blown capacitor at the bottom of the board (see picture).

I wanted to replace the capacitor, but I have two questions:
              • Does this repair have a chance of working? or is a blown capacitor a sign something else is wrong?
              • How do I determine the rating/value of this capacitor? or something
              ...

              Samsung C32HG70 - Blown Ceramic Capacitor (CP813)

              Hi everyone,

I'm new to this, so I apologize for not providing enough details. Is there anything else I need to mention? I'm trying to learn more about electronic/board repairs and hopefully fix my own.

The only visible issue on my board is one capacitor, CP813, which appears to be labeled R 221k 2kV (possibly obsolete to B 221k 2kV now). My monitor hadn't shown any prior issues, although it is a few years old. Just before the capacitor popped, there was a high-pitched squeal for 2–3 seconds.

I don't see any other visible damage anywhere else on the board....

How can I test non-polarized capacitor?
              by chth96
I desoldered samwha NF capacitor(50v 5.6uf) from PCB circuit of 29inch CRT TV which have symptoms of no display after I heard sound of inrush of current to TV whenever I switch on this television.
I measured ESR value of this non-polarized capacitor(samwha NF capacitor 50v 5.6uf) by means of MESR-100 ESR meter and It displayed 0.3 ohm

And When I measured its capacitance with digital multimeter and LCR-T4 Mega328 meter, It displayed 10uf from DMM and 8uf from LCR-T4 meter.
I found catalogue of samwha capacitor(samwha-catalogue_3.pdf file), which is attached to this thread,...

Is it no harm to replace with capacitor without ripple current rating?
              by chth96
When I tried to repair LG 29 inch CRT TV, I found that the ESR value of samyoung SMS capacitor(160v 2.2uf), which is very close to D1879 transistor, is 6 ohm.

Judging from above ESR Meter Table,I think It is necessary to replace this sms capacitor. So I visited local electronics shop, and I purchased 160v 2.2uf rubycon YK capacitor.
But when I browse through rubycon YK datasheet,I found that there is no ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf specification. But On the contrary, I found 39 mA ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf SMS capacitor.
              Rubycon YK DataSheet (b...

              Should I replace polymer capacitor?
              by chth96
a few days ago I finally purchased mser-100 v2 and I tested its abillity of measuring ESR value.
I found that It shows pretty accurate ESR value for electrolytic capacitor,But When I measure polymer capacitor of dreamcast game console,I found that one third of polymer capacitor's ESR value is more than twice the value of ESR meter table.(for example, I measured one polymer capacitor of 6.3v 100uf, It showed ESR value of 7.68)
Although my dreamcast now turns 20 years old but it still works. I occasionally have played game with it.
Is this ESR value of polymer capacitor correct?...
