Cant get to caps on a Dell Optiplex 270 motherboard because of metal plate!

This metal plate, located underneath the motherboard, I assume, protects the bottom of the CPU from something or other. It also acts as some sort of anchor for the CPU heat sink. There are four plastic holders at the four corners.

The problem is that it is blocking the areas underneath several capacitors that I have to remove, and the four plastic corner "bolts" are impossible to remove so I can get it out of the way. Short of drilling into them, I'm at a lose.

I know this board has had many bad cap issues, so I hope that someone that took the effort to replace them has some advice on what can be done.

Thanks for any help you can give.

These plastic holders are easy to work with. A small torx driver will push the white lock pin out then the black retainer can be removed. I pry on the plastic assembly after protecting the board.

some 270's have screws on this instead of plastic push pins, screws are preferred. sometimes you break those plastic push pins cause overheating on that heatsink (which is fairly common) warps the plastic of those

I worked on a SX270 a few days ago. On that board it had screws from the top. Without pictures its hard to visualize how it looks unless you worked on the exact board.

If indeed the plastic melted it can be tricky as the others already stated, one way might be to glue something to the top and pull them out, but can be very hard to do without it breaking loose.

9th Gen Dell Optiplex Micro PC motherboard repair: Short Circuit?
                by Geeker007
Hi All, I have a 9th Gen Dell Optiplex micro PC motherboard which doesn't power on. When I connect the motherboard with power adapter, it goes into safe mode and turns off. So from info I have gathered online, it looks like there is a short circuit on the motherboard. So can you guys help me with figuring out the issue?

I am new to electronics repair, so my queries could be naive but I am ready to learn.

So I have a multimeter and a solder with me. But I can try to get a variable voltage power supply with a thermal camera as well. From what I seen online, best way is...

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
                by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...
