Well, Topcat has finished recapping my board and she is very happy to be home:

here's a before and after that's better than jenny jones :

    BAD caps

    GOOD caps! - Rubie beauties

    Some things I've noticed:

    • PC is MUCH faster now - (prolly just as fast as when I bought it), but obviously there has been a slow and steady decline in speed since the caps started goin bad. Now that the board has been recapped, the original power is back and the difference is enormous - I'd say 30% or more.
    • CPU runs 10 degrees F cooler - I used Arctic Silver 3 when I mounted the HSF originaly and this time i used Ceramique. I think it made a slight difference, but 10 degrees? I don't think so. Topcat says this is because Vcore is clean now. Works for me!
    • Memory also runs cooler
    • Most importantly, stability is back! I have done some video encoding (*about 3 hours worth) without any issues at all, in fact, the 2 hour program only took 1.5 hours with each pass. Pretty good for an AMD 2700. CD ripping also came off without a hitch - ripped 12 CDs today with no problems. Either of these two chores would choke her before recapping.
    • Strangest thing: She now will hibernate. NEVER did before - even brand new!
Well, that's about it. Anyone reading this thread that is thinking about recapping - go for it!

    Couple final pics:
(reminds me of the matrix - with a couple rubies tossed in ):

Pot of Rubie Gold at the end of the rainbow:

    Cheers!
