    MSI Z170A VCORE power issue

I have this motherboard, powers, but no VCORE.
I tried remove CPU and short J2 to force the VRM controller work, and all phases output correctly.
but once I install the CPU, the phases are off.

I checked the VRM_EN, VCC, looks no issue.
What else should I check? Is it the VRM controller issue?

    Thanks

U can try flash your bios first. For this series, it will go to bios and ask bios to generate signal to cpu.

Thanks, I tried flash it, but it's the same. Maybe my CPU is dead, don't have other CPU for testing.
Will a dead CPU still pull power from VRM?

Confirmed CPU is good. Will check SVID later

            GTX480 short/vCore issue
            by tony359
            Hi all,

I have a weird issue with a GTX480 I am repairing for fun.

Originally it would crash Windows when drivers were being installed. I checked with MATS and found a faulty RAM IC. I replaced it, MATS is happy but still the installation fails to install the driver - but no more BSOD.

While testing I found something weird.

What I think is the VCORE, is completely shorted. I read 0.4 Ohm to ground. I'm aware that low resistance is normal around a GPU but I don't think 0.4 is ok?

If I check the inductors and all the mosfets,...

Lenovo Thinkpad W530 CPU VCORE STRANGE ISSUE
            by rayliu11
Would love some advice from the true professionals on this thread!

I have a W530 Thinkpad which has a puzzling issue that I've spent the week troubleshooting.

The laptop would refuse to start up unless the board was slightly pressed down in a certain area. I spent a very long time trying to pinpoint where to push on the board and pushed on various components to see if it was a contact issue. The location couldn't really be isolated.

When it refused to start, CPU VCORE would not come on. The Discrete GPU VCORE Power Good comes up along with the PCH Power Good...

Apple 820-3662 VCore shorted to ground.
            by barry101
            Hi, Would appreciate some help.
I have an Apple Late 2013 15" A1398 MacBook Pro with Logic Board 820-3662.
Get charger light but no fan spin or chime. No liquid damage.
Found PPBUS and VCORE both shorted to ground. Other rails were ok.
Removed VCORE MOSFETS U7310, U7320 and U7330. Found U7330 was in fact shorted.
With the 3 MOSFETS removed, get PPBUS and fan spin. VCORE is still hard shorted to ground (0 ohms).
Attempted voltage insertion on VCORE to locate short using bench supply set at 1.0 VDC and 4.95 Amps (max current for my...

MacBook Air A2337 (820-02016) USB-C Port Issue – Only Works in One Orientation (CC Line Problem?)
            by rounin
            Hi everyone,

I'm working on a MacBook Air 2020 (A2337, board 820-02016) and running into a strange USB-C issue. I've gone through quite a bit of testing and part replacement, but I'm stuck — hoping someone here can shed some light.

            🛠 Original Issue
            The machine initially wouldn't negotiate 20V over USB-C — stuck at 5V.
Diagnosis showed PP1V5_UPC0_LDO_CORE shorted to ground.

I replaced U3100 (UF400) using a donor board (A2179), and the machine powers on fine now.

Three 820-01700 32GB Logic Boards Same Issue: Won't Wake From Hibernate
            by ugamazing
I have three identical-spec 820-01700 boards (2.6/32/512), and ALL THREE boards came to us with the same fault, from different sources: The boards don't wake from hibernation with the keyboard or lid, they ONLY wake when you press the power button. I understand this is a very minor issue, but the boards must be fixed!

We will of course begin with the obvious (checking lid signals), but I couldn't help but notice these three boards were all 32GB variants. Has anyone noticed an issue relating to these 32GB boards in particular? I of course don't think it's a RAM issue, but it's bizarre...
