    Asus Rampage III Extreme No Power

    I have an Asus Rampage III Extreme that made a pop noise and just shut off and won't turn back on.

    Nothing really looks blown that I can see, I already tested every thing I can so far.

    The only thing I could see as a possibility is what looks to maybe be common mode choke filters near the capacitors near the CPU that say EMC on them but I can't make out exactly what the numbers are and googling doesn't really bring anything up.

    They look to say R301HF A112 ?

    The bottom one looked to have some corrosion so that's what was leading me to believe that maybe they are bad or something.

    I have read all over online that everybody has had problems with these boards but nobody has posted on any kind of fixes for them.

    If anybody could help identify them I would appreciate it.

        those are inductors, as long as you don't measure open or high resistance from end to end they should be just good.

          Thanks for replying. Can you make heads or tails of the numbers written on them? I haven't had any luck with searching online yet

          I was just leaning towards them as a possible problem since I found corrosion on them, I don't see anything else off hand.

            I got a replacement board and the parts were easier to read. R30KHF is what they say and are on mouser.

            I tried the CPU in the replacement board and it wouldn't boot, so the old board and the CPU are both fried, so not sure what would have caused that.

            Hopefully I'll be able to go over the old board and try and find out what's wrong and I'll post about my findings online in case it helps somebody else.

              do you still have the old board? Usually if 12V input is shorted to the VRM output it will burn the CPU. you can measure from the 12V input to the inductor pin to see if there is any short.

                Yes I still have it. I will check that once I get a chance, hopefully it's an easy fix and not too time consuming, the board is worth fixing.
