    Netgear DG834g v2

Here is a Netgear DG83G v2 with some bad caps. They weren't bulging, but I decided to recap it anyways.

There are 4 el cheapo Teapos, the rest are United Chemi-Con KY series. I don't know why they decided to use Teapos considering there are United Chemi-Cons in there. Anyways the bad caps are:
    2 X Teapo SC 16v 1000uF 10 X 15mm
    1 Teapo SC 16v 470uF 8 X 15mm
    1 Teapo SC 25v 100uF 6 X 11mm

The el cheapo Teapos were replaced with:
    2 X United Chemi-Con KY 16v 1000uF 12.5 X 15mm
    1 United Chemi-Con KY 16v 470uF 8 X 11.5mm
    1 United Chemi-Con KY 25v 100uF 6.3 X 11mm

Of course I also added some heatsinks as well.

The 2 16v 1000uF replacement caps were a bit tricky as far as the available space to mount them. Most of the other United Chemi-Con series caps (KZE, LXE, etc.) as well as the Panasonic FM/FC series caps of 16v/1000uF are 10 X 20mm; too tall for the amount of room inside the router even when mounted at a 90 degree angle. Fortunately the United Chemi-Con KY series has a replacement that measures 12.5 X 15mm. They are 2.5mm wider than the Teapos, so that means I had to get a little bit creative in mounting them.

Not just one 90 degree bend, but rather three. I had to use pieces of paper as spacers to prevent the cap from touching anything on the sides/bottom when soldering the cap in place.

How did you attach the heatsinks, are they cut-down RAM heatsinks and is all still well after 2 years? About to look at my own flakey DG834G.

Well, most Netgear stuff has more bugs then only badcaps.
      Simply avoid them.
I recently send my brother my Tomato powered Wrt54g, just to keep him on line, when he sends back the buggy Netgear router he got from his ISP.
And he was amazed, who fast an cable connection could be.
