File/Media server on Windows 2008 Standard 64-bit

I revamped my main server today!
Specs:
-AMD 64 x2 Dual Core
-2GB DDR2
-Foxconn nVidia motherboard (yes, I checked, the chipset is not hot)
-IDE DVDROM
-1xIDE 80GB Seagate drive (OS boot, software, etc.)
-2xSATA 250GB Seagate drive (Used Windows to make a software striped RAID, for incredible performance and double the storage)
-1x100Mbps LAN port
-300W "GPS" Generic PSU (OEM is Enhance IIRC)

Anyway, I'm wondering the easiest way to share my RAID(E) drive to the network so my Win7/XP/MacOSX machines can store files and stuff on it... and access them too!

That's it....been that way since the NT days.

Just make sure you have it permissioned right, or anyone on the LAN will be able to read/write/delete on the share. Also, if accessing a windows share with a Mac, its SMB://

I would recommend using linux server for the fileserver. I use ubuntu 64-bit on my fileserver and its performance is wonderful over my gigabit network

I wanted to use Windows Server because I'm going to be running some Windows-only server software (it's not just a file server, who needs a dual-core file server lol)

When you're putting in the server address on your mac, type smb://<share name goes here>

smb is server message block, essentially the protocol used for windows file sharing

smb is short for Samba, which is the protocol used by windows sharing... think of it like you think of tcp, udp etc ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server_Message_Block

Windows sharing is the simplest but not necessarily the fastest method of transferring files - ftp would usually do better at large transfers but with your "server" configuration, it would really make no difference.

my server name on my workgroup is win-server-1 so I type into mac os smb://win-server-1/e or what? (E) is the shared volume name

Either the server name or the IP. Eitehr will work on a properly configured network.

One more thing: right now I'm running the server on the 100mbps internal port. Can I use two identlical intel 100mbps PCI LAN adapters to get 200mbps?

With some kind of load balancing network appliance or switch, yes....but you'd be better off just upgrading to gigabit.

Already backing up all my computers to it... no, striped RAID isn't the best as far as reliability is concerned, but then again it's mostly going to be used as backup and a non-critical media server

A side note, I tacked a webcam to the wall, installed the Logitech software, set it to record to my server hard drive, enable automatic motion sensing, pasted a SMILE YOU'RE ON CAMERA sign on my door, and now I've got a cheap surveillance system
