    Aoc Lm729

Got an AOC LM729 today, friend of a friend's monitor.
Symtoms are intermittent 3 seconds to black (not sure if image is on the monitor when black) and power led stays green. If powered off for a few hours it works again for a while.

I didn't bother powering up, just disassembled.
Someone has been in here before, a few caps have been replaced, and the inverter transformers, and AC power connector have been re-soldered.
The circuit board is a bit warped as well.

    1 cap reads high esr (a 22uf @50v, circled in red) I don't have one, but may replace with a 47 @ 50v.

One other obvious problem, (see second photo) an obvious bad solder joint on an inductor that may well explain the symptoms.

Resoldered the bad joint, replaced the 22@50 with a pair of 10@50 in parallel (Panasonic FM) and the montor is on test, so far so good.
Out of circuit, the cap reads 18uf and 3.2 ohms ESR, may not have been an issue....

The light blue cap is probably radio shack.

What that is a very bad joint. Even my soldering skills are not that bad! :-)

I forget now, but it looked like an OK cap, plus we don't have Radio Shack here (not that we don't have other crappy establishments that sell cheap GP caps) and it measured fine.

The solder joint was bad, but had no flux around it, so I don't think it was the last guy who worked on it. Likely a heat/cool/vibration issue.
As always, I dont just touch up bad joints, I remove all the solder and re-do them.

PS5 stuck at restore and than no power for some time
              by groomit
              Hi there,
Tried to condense the problem in the title. Hope it was appealing for someone.

I bought a broken PS5 with 2 sek. BLOD. When it arrived I noticed the bad condition of the console housing, bent cooler pipes and deformed disk drive. Yeah , obviously very bad drop damage. And obviously not appropriately described in the offer. Because it was my first hand on a PS5 for an okayish price, I decided to take the risk.
              It is an EDM-020 CFI-1116A.

First thing I noticed was wrong initialization amperage. It went to 450 mA an then dropped to around 150 mA. Figured...

Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH - Ideapad 3 well known solder joint issues
              by Nagyesz
I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH, which has started exhibiting the well-known issues of the Lenovo IdeaPad 3.

All stress tests run perfectly, and there are no performance issues. However, the solder joints are almost certainly starting to fail. If the top two screws on the back are not screwed in, moving the screen results in a BSOD or, in some cases, a slight artifact and freeze. This is a 2023 notebook..

How can I extend its lifespan? Could reflow help?

It has ryzen 5 5500h, rtx 2050, no soldered ram.

              Example of the artifacts:

Acer Helios 500 (PH517-51) - unexpected reboots when laptop is warm (cold solder joint issue?)
              by Mirenia
              Hi everyone,

got an Acer Helios 500 Laptop (PH517-51) for diagnosing with a strange issue:

The laptop runs for a while (1-2 hours, sometimes less) and then suddenly shuts completely off, like someone pulled the power cord and restarts immediately after on its own.
If this happened once, then the laptop only runs for a few minutes until restart.
This happens regardless while staying in windows or uefi or in a linux environment.

At first I thought of a normal overheating issue, but as I monitored temps with HWInfo64, nothing seems very hot.

LG 47LB5DF blown power supply board
              by cmlewis89
              Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum. So my trusty 17-year-old LG 47" LCD recently died. As I was booting it up, I heard a hum followed by a loud bang, sounds of pieces flying around, and loss of power to the unit. Inspecting the PSU, I saw two obvious problems: a blown thermistor (bang + flung pieces) and a visibly bulging main cap. Inspecting as many components as I could with my Fluke MM, I diagnosed that the following components on the "hot side" of the board were also bad: one of the 2 main MOSFETs, main 8A fuse, small cap (25V 47uF) connected to main caps, and a blown...

Can a microwave oven be used to reflow solder joint?
              by tmhobadcap
I heard somebody suggested a way of repair faulty led light bulb which I have never heard of. The way is to put the led light bulb inside a microwave oven and turn on the microwave oven for a few seconds. He said that faulty led light bulb is usually caused by poor solder joint between the led and the pcb. Putting the bulb inside the microwave oven for a few seconds will heat and reflow the solder joint making it works again.

Is that possible? I do not want to try this unless I have a spare microwave oven.

(I do not mean to suggest somebody to try this. It may be...
