Got this line on my monitor anyone know what it is

    Hi guys,

Just noticed this line appearing on my monitor screen ..it only appears after it's been on for a while..The caps were all changed a while a go ..It's a proview 19" monitor..

The line is usually white ..I took a snapshot of the screen ..as you can see at the bottom is the line. But for some reason it is not white like it normally is.

Any idea what could be the cause . ..could a cold solder joint cause this display.I choose a solid color for the snapshot as the task bar sometimes hides it with my screen saver that i use.

    cheers.

When you say 'snapshot', did you take it with a camera, or use the screenshot app to capture the image?

Your video card dying. Or main memory on your PC if using shared memory with onboard video on the mainboard.

        Cheers, Wizard

I agree with Wizard - sort of. You say it only shows up after the machine has been on for a while, that suggests a heat problem, and memory can fail at particular locations (first) when it overheats. Open up the system and clean it thoroughly. Verify that all fans are working normally, especially the fan on the video card, if there is one. Then with the system running, check the temperatures using whatever tools you have for this. lm_sensors will do it for the motherboard, and I think nvidia-settings can show you the card temperature (assuming it is an Nvidia card). Come to think of it, lm_sensors will also tell you the system voltages, and memory might get a bit odd if one of those was off.

Re: Got this line on my monitor anyone know what it is

            Hi guys ,

Just come back online ...i do have a Nvida graphics card that had a noisy fan so i took fan off and replaced it with a heat sink which is what alot of techs are doing near me...PC is clean as a bell and i cleaned cpu fan also not long ago .. ..So you guys think it is either the card or a ram stick that's at fault? Funny enough i did find a capacitor that had fell off one of my ram sticks and i re soldered it back on but that was weeks ago and the 1G ram stick was out of my old pc that had the psu trouble .

Under nvida settings i see thermol monitor that says core temp is 57c is this high for this ?

The line has now gone but i have only just come back online ...No problems anywhere else with pc at the moment.Would the ram or card defo cause this line issue then as like i say the pc runs great ?

By the way the background color is not what i usually have i purposely changed it to show you the line as you cannot see it when i have my proper screen saver on.

BAD idea. If the manufacturer thought they could get away with just a heat sink they would have used one.

My Nvidia card is currently at 38C for ambient air of 26C. It isn't doing anything much, just a static screen. If you just turned your machine on, the graphics isn't anything heavy, and the graphics card is already up to 57C, then the heat sink is not cutting it. If you have a spare fan laying around, bolt it on and see if it makes the problem go away. Much cheaper than replacing the card.

If the resolution for the TV is lower than for the PC you might not be using the bad part of the memory.

Just an update to say it was not the graphics card but the 1G stick of ram that had caused the line.

Swapped out the ram from my other pc and all perfect ..It was the stick of ram that i re soldered the smd cap that i found had come off the ram stick ..Will remove the cap and try and see if i can get a better solder joint ,if it still don't work right the stick can go in my testing box as it works ok apart from the line appearing every now and again..

Nearly got a new graph card off fleabay but remembered that my other pc had same type of ram so all is good .
                        Cheers

Seems like a good idea to me too. It is a bit odd for a system memory error to manifest as a line that shows up consistently on the display in the same place when a graphics card is used. Now if the system had onboard graphics that shared system RAM it would make perfect sense, but with a separate graphics card system memory errors don't usually do that.

Well been running pc all yesterday and today no line so put the ram back in ( faulty one)

Guess what line is back ,so guys i do not understand memory related problems but this is defo faulty ram as i have done the logical way to test by swapping out the ram and i cannot think of any other logical explanation..I learn some think new every day with electronics

ps the graph card is a Geforce 6200

A Geforce 6200 with Turbo Cache that uses some of your system RAM by any chance?

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

Lately I am experiencing the deja-vu incident on one of the led monitor like this.

The monitor will randomly blackout and display no signal and will recover again.

                                          Good evening, gentlemen.

I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.

To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.

Looking through my repair pictures and notes, it's been a long time since I posted anything in the LCD monitors section. So here goes that.

I'm dedicating this thread to one of the very first LCD monitors I repaired (if not the first one), which was more than 10 years ago now. The monitor is a Wise Wing, model F199. It's a 19” CFL-backlit LCD. I got it for free off of Craigslist in 2009 from a guy, who said he bought it for cheap from Wallmart and the monitor worked only for a little less than 2 years before quitting.

When I saw the Craigslist post, I wasn't...

4 weeks ago i launched Metro Exodus Enhanced and during cinematic advertisement part ( 30 fps ), pc just shutdown.
Also monitor flickered with NO SIGNAL 10 seconds after shutdown. So only monitor and pc was affected.

Next i pressed only power button, rebooted again and its fine again. Happened once and i cant reproduce.
