Better would be to lift the input leg of the 7812
Then power it up and see what voltage you have on the input then.
    I agree.
Just remove the 7812 regulator and see if the PSU can start up.
To remove the 7812, first unscrew it from the heatsink. Then, using a sharp blade or flat screwdriver, separate it from the heatsink (otherwise it might be a little stuck due to thermal compound.) After this, put a blob of solder over its leads on the bottom and pull it out. Should come out fairly easily.

Once the 7812 is out, plug in the PSU again. If the 12V rail is still reading low, try putting a load on the 5V rail (like a 12V PC fan or two or perhaps a car 12V incandescent light bulb rated for 1-3 Watts) to see if the 12V rail goes up.

      LGOLED55B7V Clicking and dead screen.
      by Donny2derby
Picked this up other week and when I originally looked at in the sellers house I got 3/4's of a working screen and some horizontal lines across the 1/4 of it which was dead/black.

Just tried powering it up at home and now all I'm getting is a clicking and some very faint lines on 1/4 of the screen whilst the entirety of it is dead.

When using the remote I get two red clicks on the standby. Not sure if this means anything or helps. The same when I use the manual power up.

Help appreciated. I'm an electrician, I've fixed a few in the past so not a total...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
      by double_DD
      Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

Samsung UE49KS7000SXXH - fast clicking sound in standby mode
      by B0r1s
      PSU - BN44-00878A

      Symptoms:

The TV turned itself off, and I haven't been able to turn it back on. The standby voltage was unstable and lower than it should be.
A weak clicking sound was coming from the transformer.

      Video with clicking sound:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAduhjNtqCA

      Progress:

After the transformer, I measured four Schottky diodes. DM862C and DM864C diodes readings were 003 in both directions. After detaching them from the circuit and measuring them, DM864C was the shorted one. These Schottky diodes are SB550.I...

      Finding a dead short component
      by Beton
      Hi guys!
I searched for the term "dead short" in the forum but no specific thread came up however if I'm just blind and couldn't see the thread talking about this please forward me to that direction.
So my problem is I don't know how to find the source of a dead shorted voltage rail. Dead short = ~0 ohm resistance.
I have two VGAs (HD 4850 and HD 4870), both dead shorted to ground on the memory rail. I have the boardview file for the 4870 and the memory rail consists around ~7892346 capacitors...
I have a bench PSU and if I try to inject voltage the voltage...
