    novus plastic polish

Has anyone ever tried it on an LCD panel? I picked up a few non working LCD monitors yesterday(Yay freecycle), Repaired 3 out of 5. but 2 of the ones i fixed have scuffs on the lcd panels. So I was just wondering if anyone had ever tried novus on one? or anything else that may have worked out.

BTW of the two i did not fix, one had a cracked screen and The other one I will be posting pics of soon just in case anyone has any ideas of what to do to fix it. But i think it has at least one bad ccfl and i hate dealing with those anymore

    Re: novus plastic polish

    dmbj,
Sorry I can't offer you anything helpful when it comes to using novus. I have used Nu Finish, "Scratch Doctor", Clear Coat Scratch Remover before and I had some good and some not so good results.

What I did determine, is the obvious.....some scratches come out very well, others not so well depending on the severity. I do have some "nice" scratches that might need a sand blaster or pressure cleaner to get them to even budge!!!!

If you don't mind me asking, how do you like using freecycle.org? I was just told about the site by a co-worker who thought I would like it.....and I do!!
I enjoy tinkering with monitors and the like, so it is right up my alley!!

      Re: novus plastic polish

I have some of this Novus plastic polish, it works great on scratched CD's, DVD's, games but I haven't tried it on LCD's yet. I got this stuff called DISPLEX display polish on ebay awhile back to try on a 15" LCD TV with a deep scratch around the middle of the screen. It worked alright, but it took a lot of the polish and rubbing to make it less noticeable with the TV on, but when it's off you can see a bright area where the top matte layer was removed. Also it was about $8 for the tiny tube, it was 5g which isn't much. This stuff it really made for cell phone screen covers, the plastic part, not actual LCD's.

        Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
        by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

Desoldering - soldering BGA chip close plastic mini fpc connectors ?
        by corrize
Hello, I need your advise please ? I need to remove and replace the BGA black chip with fpc connectors around. The PCB is small, from camera.

There is no plastic component directly under, on the other face, (only fuse and oscillator I can remove if they are sensitives to heat), but there is a lot of very small smd components I don't want to desolder by mistake.

        I have :
        - hot air, and a
        ll stuff around
        - true kapton tape
        - 140 and 180 degree soldering paste
        - bismuth
        - little hot plate 250 degree max
        - the new BGA chip with probably

Soldering plastic low profile FPC close camera CMOS sensor ?
        by corrize
Hello, I will have to solder a very small FPC connector (pins : 0.3mm), on the pcb of CMOS sensor, it is very close. I was surprised by movie on ytb, someone soldering directly with hot air directly on the sensor without kapton, nothing.
CMOS sensor seems resist to high temps.
But I also directly saw sensor broken because a blocked motor at the corner became very hot and probably bent the metal frame and cracked the sensor.

I have low melting point solder.
I will probably test hot air directly on one of plastic connector (I have a lot) at 320 degree on a test
