    Infamous Dell E172FPb

Sorry for starting a new thread, I know there is a 20-something page thread on this monitor, but I was wondering if someone could help me clarify if this is all I need to do to have it running tip-top again:

    -Replace caps
-Wash solder side of inverter/psu board (it almost looks like it wasn't cleaned at manufacturing)
    -Replace all four 5707s
-Resolder all trannies, connectors, heatsinked components, coils

    Is that it?

Also, here are all the cap series in the monitor. Could you guys recommend similar-ESR 105c replacements? I want try and stick to original ESR values as much as possible on this one.

    Elite EL
    Jamicon TK
    Lelon RGA

I'm replacing EVERY capacitor in there, down to the tiny ones on the signal board. WLG goes all out when he fixes a monitor. WLG hates taking them apart and hopes to never have to see the insides of any particular monitor more than once.

    Thanks a million,
    -WLG

If transistors failed then PF751 axial inverter fuse probably failed

I have one failed (C5707) transistor, my multimeter (continuity test) beeps when I touch the emitter and the collector on that one. The other three transistors don't do that. Also where on the board can I find PF751? What does it look like?

Also does anybody have a source for the C5707s? Or a suitable replacement that will hold up like the original?

OK guys. I decided screw it and just ordered a kit from ebay. Has the 5707s, two 9024Ns, and the 3a fuse. I'll wash the solder side of the board, put in the new parts, resolder most everything, replace all the large caps, and call it a day. I got a little carried away and forgot that this is a free 5 year old LCD.

When my beloved 19" LG dies, THEN I'll pull out all the stops and do a complete rebuild

          This is the kit:

I'll let you guys know the outcome when I get all my stuff. Now I'm off to Mouser for some caps.

You have probably found PF751 fuse by now but if not
Its right of the bright green cap on the bottom of this picture in this link

Yup, sorry Bobdee, I forgot to talk about it. I did find the fuse and it is not blown. However, since it comes as part of the kit, I'll be replacing it anyway.

Got the caps in from Mouser today (way to go FedEx!). Washed the entire circuit board with some red Waxie stuff my dad had laying around and hot water. Quick dry in the oven at 200F for 5 minutes. It looks a lot nicer now. Resoldered all the transformers, replaced any and all caps with vents. Just waiting on my repair kit with the 5707s to come in the mail (damn you USPS).

I tested the board after the wash and recap, and it still powers up and does exactly what it was doing before (good image for 2 seconds, then backlight shuts off), so everything looks good so far.

I'm ready to throw this piece of shit out the window.

I checked my mailbox, and it turns out I got the rest of the parts in today. I went and installed the 5707s, checking the orientation, and I also replaced the 9024Ns, again checking the orientation. I replaced the fuse. I gave everything a once over and plugged it all in. Tada, it works! It was making a strange buzzing sound, but it wasn't very loud. I figured the new caps needed a bit of runtime to settle in. I put everything back together and stupid thing did the 2-seconds-to-black again!! I've rechecked the board several times for bridged joints, etc., and I can't find anything. Now the stupid thing is blinking on and off and making a ticking sound, like if there was a short somewhere.

Odds are the transistors shorted. You may have a bad transformer.

Is it possible that something in the case is shorting out?
