    Gateway FPD 1975W Hissing, Blinking

Hi all, before you scold me for not searching, I know there's a fairly old thread covering this monitor found at this link:

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6940

Now, since the responses to that were somewhat vague (just replace caps) I thought I'd look for a little more info. I'm using this monitor currently, whenever I power it on, be it from standby or a full off state, the monitor blinks on and off (as well as the blue power light) several times, then the monitor will stay on for approximately 10 seconds while hissing. The process then repeats, more blinking, then another 10 seconds of power while hissing. After 5 minutes or so of this, the monitor will eventually settle upon my login screen and hiss for about 1 minute, then quiet down.

I'm assuming I just have blown caps, but I'm a complete newbie to this, so my questions are:

    1) Does anyone happen to know specifically the amount and size of caps I'll need for this monitor's board?

    2) Given the pictures on the earlier link I posted, I know this board uses caps ranging from 220uf to 680uf, and they're all 25v. Would it be a problem for me to use ALL 680uf, 35v caps? I'd just like to know if there's any flexibility here, or if these cap specs have to be replaced identically.

    Thanks for your time

The only intelligent approach is to replace ALL the caps with the same voltage and capacitance. Going with a higher voltage may run into space problems, increasing capacitance often causes problems.

Order the proper Panasonic series FM or FC parts from Digikey; it will save money and frustration.

Thanks very much PlainBill! I'm going to scour for more board pictures first before I open this thing up, but I'll definitely do a final count and tally myself. I may well end up having to use 25v's again, but luckily Digikey does give size specs, so I should be able to figure out if upping the voltage will be doable. Appreciate the response

Relying on another thread for specs for your board, sight unseen, is not advisable. Boards change within the same monitor model/production run/year. Get pics of yours posted here and get the values from yours so we can assist in your choices.

Alright, I can do that, should be able to get some up tonight. Unfortunately this is the only computer I have at my disposable and I'm going to have to use it to make my order, so if possible I'm trying to avoid powering off the monitor to wind up with it dead before I have a chance to get the parts.

It would be quite a comedown, but if you live in a metropolitan area, check Craigslist or Freecycle for CRT monitors. Virtually every day someone is giving one or more away - free!!

I scour Craigslist too but I always look for broken CRT TVs they charge little to nothing to take them off their hands. Plus I like the challenge.

A Panasonic 27" for 14 bucks won't find that at any department store .

That's OK, too. But I prefer my latest TV acquisition. I picked up a 42" plasma with a couple of bad caps for $100. Right now I'm looking at another Philips where someone screwed up a software upgrade.

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

                  Hi Everyone

Lately I am experiencing the deja-vu incident on one of the led monitor like this.

The monitor will randomly blackout and display no signal and will recover again.
Sometimes need to power and off again to restore the display but...

LG 23MP55HQ LED Monitor turns off after a few seconds or flickers.
                  by Rick_1234
                  Good evening, gentlemen.

I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.

To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.

Wise Wing F199 19'' LCD monitor - recapped
                  by momaka
Looking through my repair pictures and notes, it's been a long time since I posted anything in the LCD monitors section. So here goes that.

I'm dedicating this thread to one of the very first LCD monitors I repaired (if not the first one), which was more than 10 years ago now. The monitor is a Wise Wing, model F199. It's a 19” CFL-backlit LCD. I got it for free off of Craigslist in 2009 from a guy, who said he bought it for cheap from Wallmart and the monitor worked only for a little less than 2 years before quitting.

When I saw the Craigslist post, I wasn't...
