Is there any easy way to find what size CCFLs I would need for replacement?
Lighting from one end only indicates the voltage is too low.

Google CCFL backlight. A number of sites selling CCFLs will come up. Some of them have a page indicating proper replacement CCFLs for a few monitors. Other sites are more honest, and admit that the same model monitor may have LCD panels from several different manufacturers and even the same manufacturer may use different diameter CCFLs in the same model panel.

The only way to be sure is to open it up and see.

      Re: DSE XC5592 (Proview 700P)

But the voltage being too low wouldn't cause a false reading?

Then again I guess since the 4th lamp did light up as white then it isn't an issue...or can they light up red on only one end?

I may try to take the LCD apart (and try not to ruin it) and find the lamp size. If I can find a cheap enough replacement then perhaps I will try it.

OK I took the LCD apart (didn't seem too hard, maybe it was a good design ) and removed the CCFLs.

I measured one from end to end (glass only) and they are 346 x 2.2 mm

          Re: DSE XC5592 (Proview 700P)

I just came across this thread again, and realised I had forgotten to finish it!
So for anyone who wants to know what happened:

When I removed the CCFLs, 3 of them were definitely bad, blackened on the ends. Those were the 3 that lit up red in the tests. The 4th was not blackened and still lit up white.

Some time later I bought some new CCFLs on eBay (From CCFLWarehouse) but didn't put them in straight away as I did not have a temperature controlled soldering iron at the time, and I had read that you should keep the temperature low to avoid damaging the lamps.

Eventually I got around to installing the new lamps after I got a soldering station. It was a bit tricky doing the wires and I ended up snapping one of the new CCFLs in the process. Fortunately as one of the old ones was still OK, I just replaced the 3 that were bad and left it at that.

The monitor has been working fine since, with no flickering or any other problems. The only other stupid thing I did was use Kapton tape on the backlight reflector to hold the wires in place, and there are some faint yellow areas on the top and bottom of the screen where the tape gets reflected too. Still, the monitor has a pretty cheap and lame panel anyway and they aren't very noticeable at normal viewing distance so I don't really care. It is worth more to me in terms of practice, and for finding out how easy it is to break CCFLs when your concentration lapses!

It's still running on the original Fuhjyyu capacitors (Yeah, I know) - but I don't use it very often and they are still OK so it's not a high priority. I'll get around to that some day, if the 4th CCFL doesn't die first. I'm still amazed that some Fuhjyyu capacitors outlasted the CCFLs!

Thanks to everyone who helped on this thread, if you're still on the forum and reading this. I learned a lot with this one.

Dick Smith GE6992 Flashing Backlight every 10 secs
            by Wilderone
Hi, wondering if I can get some assistance with this TV please.

Backlight starts flashing on/off roughly every 10seconds after the TV gets warm. (10-20 minutes)

I have stripped it down to the LED'S thinking I may see the culprit but all strings seem okay & test okay with LED Tester.

Each LED string (4) measures 130v & drops around 2v when it flashes & back up to 130v.

DSE GE6878 possible TV receiver dying remote not working well
            by CdDvdFlash
For this Dick Smith TV GE6878 (Thompson) I replaced the broken remote with a universal it kinda works though if its more than a few meters away sometimes the buttons register and sometimes they wont so I bought another remote from another brand and it has the same problem, I've had an old TV in the past that the sensor died completely and I replaced it to fix it could this be a similar problem? I tried looking for a service manual, spare parts for a receiver and a parts list but I couldnt find any info. can someone please help me to find the info online for a service manual or where I can buy...

Xiaomi L55M5-5ASP fine lines on the panel uniform
            by Raulnn
Good afternoon! Does anyone know how to remove these lines? They are very fine lines at the bottom of the panel. I have 2 identical panels, and I have even thought that this brand has this lattice format, although I highly doubt it.

The photo from the YouTube app is where it is best seen.

            thanks in advance....
