I got an AOC LM729 which after a few seconds or so kicks out the backlight but still displays a picture so I opened it up and while I did not see any bulging caps I still pulled two Elite 1000uf, 16v and two hermei 470uf, 16v caps and will be repalcing them tomorrow. Yes there were two more hermei caps on the inverter board but they were both rated 150uf, 25v and four TL caps on a board between the inverter and video board rated 16v 470uf and again, not one of these caps were bulging. Should I replace them all anyways? I'm heading into town later and if I don't buy the caps this trip I won't be able to get into town for another week.

managed to revive two other LCD panels but of course, the AOC panel still switches the backlight off after a few seconds. >:/Find Nedry!

Recapped the board and it fixed nothing.
then yesterday I find another wrecked AOC monitor I salvage the boards from and still, the backlight goes on for a bit and then switches off.Find Nedry!

Sounds like Inverter or CCFLs, check out the inverter transistors and the solder joints on on inverter transformersOriginally posted by pentium

This appears to be the same inverter circuit used in the Dell E172FPb / E173FPb monitors. There are a couple of electrolytics in the inverter, and the value he referenced is definitely an electrolytic cap, but the one he appeared to be changing was a film cap. Now if that cap was bad, it would screw up that half of the inverter.

I have seen the Grey box type fail there with visual signs but never the Blue type, I do not recall ever reading about this Blue cap failing in the Monitor forum before so I think its one to keep in mind

The joker on the Youtube video was pulling a switch. The cap he described was an electrolytic; the one he replaced was a film cap. (Not too cool).
For the record, within the past year the following causes for the 'two seconds to black' problem have been identified:
Bad transformer.
Glue around HV caps
Bad CCFL
Bad wiring on CCFL
Bent pin on connector.
Wrong replacement caps.
Bad transistor
Bad capacitor

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.
I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.
I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.
The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

Hi,
I just noticed that my Asus V9999GT (GeForce 6800 GT) had some swelling capacitors. I managed to identify the brown ones, which are Nippon Chemi-Con KZG series, 6.3V 820µF, which I plan to replace with this.
But for the yellow ones, I guess these are Fujitsu caps, without being able to identify which series... A picture of the video card is attached to the topic.
I need to replace:- 2x 2.5V 1500µF => I plan to use this
- 2x 16V 330µF=> I plan to use this
- 1x 6.3V 680µF=> I plan to use this
