    monitor cable faulty

got a free LCD screen given to me from freecycle

it works but the cable that plugs into my graphics card has internal damage so the colours are skew - it displays in pink but if you wiggle the wire it will fluctuate colours

is this easy to fix ? replace the cable? i guess it would involve soldering - if i could get a similar cable.........

    Re: monitor cable faulty

[I'm assuming one end is permanently attached to monitor.]
You can get connectors for the end but they are a pain in the butt to install.
Probably easier to replace the whole cable back to the solder joints on the PCB board.
Can scavenge one from a dead monitor or clip one end off a VGA-VGA cable.
Make sure you leave the end with the correct pin male/female configuration.
    - As in don't cut off the end you need if they are different....

      Re: monitor cable faulty

      yeah the cable is fixed

i think the cable is broken at the pc plug end or near the rear of monitor

aint looked at it for a while - it looks like some one has twisted the cable round and round till its twisted and snapped an internal wire or something

looks like i should go buy a soldering iron!!

anyone recommend summat CHEAPish but WORTHY of this and doing a decent job on cap replacing?

      thanks

        Re: monitor cable faulty

A generic 30 or 40 watt should do fine for that.
[Kind of depends on what there is for soldering in there.]
I got a generic 60 watt (ECG brand) at Fry's a while back for $8.99. [Not even on sale.]
It's a cheapie but not total junk. At least the handle is insulated.

Make sure to get some fluxed solder braid to help with removing the old solder.

Also solder around .022" diameter. (or .032 might be okay.)
Too big is harder to use on smaller joints.
If too small then you just feed it faster.

what's faulty monitor, cable,or graphics card on wake from sleep?
          by paparazzo79
          Hi friends.
I was having this issue since I purchased the monitor, but then again it maybe works like that.
Back at that time I didn't want to RMA the monitor due to covid and waiting toooo long for return.
          So the monitor CJG50 32 " from Samsung has 3 inputs (DP+2HDMI).
I have 3 PCs hooked up to all 3 ports.
But only over displayport input monitor wakes up from standby and I do get picture.
Over both HDMI I had to manually select the source over monitor settings (OSD settings built into monitor).
Input source was selected to automatic by default in...

Seeking Advice: Repairing Dell U3425WE Monitor with Faulty USB-C/Thunderbolt Ports
          by Borse2008
          Hi everyone,

Looking for some advice or opinions on what to do with a monitor issue I’ve run into. Apologies in advance is this crossovers a few forum categories.

I have a Dell U3425WE, which I've recently replaced with another model. That said, the original unit is still fully functional in terms of the display — it works perfectly over HDMI and DisplayPort. However, the USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 ports have stopped functioning correctly. The Issue:
          • The 90W Thunderbolt 4 port (circled in the photo) no longer charges or powers any device, including laptops or MacBooks.

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
          by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

          AOC AG493UCX 49-inch monitor - Firmware request
          by wattage
          Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...
