    Samsung Syncmaster 710V

I have just acquired two of these monitors and they both power up and show the floating test box until I plug in the VGA cable then all I get is a black screen with a floating box with "Not optimum mode Recommended Mode: 1280 x 1024 60Hz ". I appreciate this is a recognised problem of the Novatek IC1200 chip on the IC board with some fixers claiming that a 50 Ohm resistor soldered to two adjoining pins (nos 5&6) on the chip cure the problem. I have tried this without success but have no idea apart from 50 Ohm what other characteristics the resistor has to have - or whether there is another fix or cause now been found.
Anyone able to help on this?
    Regards

Very interested in how you arrived at that chip being the problem as the only other posts I have found mention of the problem it has been the Novatek IC 1200 chip (the other large chip on that board)?
Have you been able to test the chip or just been advised it is the problem?
I actually managed to get one of these monitors to run last night for a short period and then the problem returned. I am not convinced it is either of these chips - still feel there may be a problem everyone has overlooked as yet!
Would be interested in your thoughts or the faults on your monitor as no one other than yourself seems to have anything to contribute - plenty of viewings but no comments!
      Cheers

hi guys, sorry to bump this 'old' thread..

i am having with me the same monitor model with the exact failure.. in addition, the monitor i have now, also shutdown (including the power LED) after the floating box with "Not optimum mode Recommended Mode: 1280 x 1024 60Hz" ended displaying..

i have used a 'search' button & found this thread,,, for the record i have yet to open it up.. just checking for the failure symptom..

Can someone advise me whether i should proceed Soldering a 50 ohm resistor between Pins 5 & 6 on the Novatek IC1200?.. anybody with success using this method & for how long does this work?.. or is there any other solution?..

          many thanks guys..

p/s: apologies for the lack of pictures, for now..

I got a Samsung Syncmaster 710V with the same "Not optimum mode" problem.

I tried the 50ohm resistor trick at the Novatek ic and it worked, but only for some hours... Then, I tried placing a slightly lower resistor (~47ohm if I remember correct) and it worked again but only for 1-2 days...

            I also found this:

Well, now I have a Nec LCD1703M with a broken screen, and the Samsung 710V having problem in the video board. Is there a way to use the good panel in place of the broken one?

You will have to look up the spec of the LCD panel, especially the pin out of the LVDS to the built-in T-CON on the panel, connector and the Voltage uses by the T-CON board. I have done many.

I managed to repair that TFT monitor.

                I ordered this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221146171932...=STRK:MEWNX:IT
                and now the monitor works!

Menus and welcome screen are IBM now though and buttons work differently, but this is not something I can't live with :P

                  Hi folks,

I'm new here and was wondering whether you might be kind enough to give me some advice on troubleshooting the following problem:

Quite a few years ago now, a couple of years from new, my Samsung Syncmaster 740BF LCD monitor starting playing up by making a buzzing noise and then the display would go blank. I seem to remember the blue power led would also go off when this happened but that I'm not 100% sure of. By pressing the power button I do remember I could at first get it working again but eventually the problem would come back. At the time I had read about...
