    Sharp PN-E521 Black Screen

    Hello everyone,

    A dear friend of mine wanted me to check this massive monitor. Not even a TV it is the type you see on the airports and what not.
    An information display to be exact.
    Anyway Monitor turns on we can see the backlight in the back but screen remains black. Completely unresponsive only turns on and off. I also was able to see a faint discrepancy in blackness on the left side of the monitor. A lighter section from top to bottom and about 3 inches wide starting on the corner. (PICTURED)

    Well I opened it right up and was quite impressed by the quality. Also never before have I removed this many screws on a screen this size.
    Unfortunately I see no visible damage and no bulging caps.
    I did went ahead and disconnected the T-con and turned it right back on.
    With the T-con disconnected the screen turns on just fine but this time it is solid black no lighter section as described above.

    Conclusion;
    I am betting on a busted T-con board. Truly hope it isn't display failure.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Try having one ribbon cable between the T-CON and the LCD panel connected one at a time to see what you get on the screen. The SMD fuse on T-CON is good and getting 12VDC at both ends of the fuse with ref to the chassis GND?

      Hello there and thanks for your fast response.
      I tested the TV with the ribbons disconnected the closest one gave me the same line on the right the farther one gave me a full black screen. Exactly similar to what happens when the T-con is fully disconnected.
      I am also currently unable to test the SMD fuse I currently dont have a multi-meter.
      I have a close idea as to which one it is though.
      Is there a specific multi-meter you recommend?
      Good day!

        I have no recommendation for the meter, usually the one for electronics repair in the $30~50 range will be good enough for checking Voltages.
