Five... oh god how can it be five... anyways, five years ago I made this thread...

Everything has been going great until this last weekend.

Light comes on full strength and then is out after about a second. This is slightly different from before. It use to come on about half way then go out. No amount of warming up has helped it nor repeated attempts to turn on, 100+.

Anyways I took everything apart and the caps seem good?
Maybe the ones on the board that has the display connections look a little puffy on top. Other then that not sure I can see anything else wrong.

This is where I have started with my diagnosis. Hopefully I can get some direction on what moves to make. Will respond ASAP.

on the main logic board, 4 caps in a line under 2 regulators.
they look fucked!

cooked by the regulators - replace them with something long-life like panasonic FR series.

The caps are 330uf 16v. Should I use 25v instead? or replace with the exact same?

that's the 4.

i usually use the same simply because going over often makes them bigger.
what's the diameter & height?

Yea good point, It is a bit of a tight squeeze.
The caps are 13mm tall and 7mm wide. with 3mm spacing on leads.

Seems like they would be the same height but a bit wider... they are already pretty close. However, it seems like a 330uf 16v doesn't exist for Panasonic FR... unless the search is broken.

that's wrong, the diameter should be 6.3mm or 8mm - there is no 7mm.

if they are 8mm you can use FM series or go up a step and use 470uf 16v FR series.

Yep, you are correct. Embarrassingly I wasn't using calipers and just had a hard time measuring that angle.
Anyways, the three choices then.

Would one of them handle the stress better that was caused the old ones to go bad in the first place? Or at this point are they of such better quality that I should just roll a dice?

use the 470uf FR's
that way, when they get cooked, they have a lot more headway before they fail.

No go sadly, same problem after recap. Thanks for the help. Probably giving up on this guy soon. Been wanting to upgrade for years anyways...
