Yep, you are correct. Embarrassingly I wasn't using calipers and just had a hard time measuring that angle.
Anyways, the three choices then.

Would one of them handle the stress better that was caused the old ones to go bad in the first place? Or at this point are they of...

Re: x241w revisted
Yea good point, It is a bit of a tight squeeze.
The caps are 13mm tall and 7mm wide. with 3mm spacing on leads.
Seems like they would be the same height but a bit wider... they are already pretty close. However, it seems like a 330uf 16v doesn't exist for Panasonic FR... unless the search is broken.Last edited by shinycaps; 09-10-2015, 11:19 PM.

x241w revisted
Five... oh god how can it be five... anyways, five years ago I made this thread...
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10174
Everything has been going great until this last weekend.
Light comes on full strength and then is out after about a second. This is slightly different from before. It use to come on about half way then go out. No amount of warming up has helped it nor repeated attempts to turn on, 100+.
Anyways I took everything apart and the caps seem good?
Maybe the ones on the board that has the display...

Re: Replacing caps on acer x241w learning experience...
Before I begin.. SUCCESS!
Sorry about how long between updates as I have been very anxious about my first real soldering fix so it made procrastinating very easy.
I first broke apart an old radio and practiced unsoldering and resoldering components and grew confident pretty quick.
So with my enthusiasm i quickly took my monitor apart and got to work..
and then I made a rather large beginner mistake... I failed to notice the glue holding the one cap in place and ended up...

Re: Replacing caps on acer x241w learning experience...
Sorry for lack of updates, waiting on soldering iron to come in still.. hopefully sometime this week.
Little update on something I have found out. I don't actually have to sit here turning the screen on and off for a half hour or more.. All I have to do is turn it on and let it sit on but with no backlight for about an hour. Then I turn it off and back on and the backlight stays on. So it seems like its waiting for something to warm up.. Not exactly sure what that would be or what it means.

Re: Replacing caps on acer x241w learning experience...
Well I had moved the monitor to an area where I can mess around with it and sunlight was hitting it at an angle it never had before and it seems that there is actually a display and it is the backlight turning off after a couple seconds.
Is this most likely the same problem? It is unclear in the threads I am able to find on the issue.
I have already ordered capacitors, solder, braid and a iron.
Would like to figure out if there is anything else I should check before waiting for parts to get here....

Replacing caps on acer x241w learning experience...
Well to be honest I have hardly ever worked with electronics before and only soldered a couple times in a class room so this is a big learning experience for me.
Basically my Acer x241w turns on but only after 15-30 attempts at turning it on and off.. very frustrating in the morning when I am trying to check something before work.
After reading online I found here to be a good source of information about this problem and how to rectify it.
Earlier today I decided to at least take apart my monitor and see what is up with the caps and sure enough some...Last edited by shinycaps; 06-27-2010, 06:08 PM.
