    Dell 2408WFP wont power on

    Hello,

Over the years my Dell 2408WFP would sometimes go back to sleep mode after claiming there was no video signal. Waiting it out, or CTRL-ALT-DEL in Windows usually fixed it. Not sure if this is related.

Yesterday I plugged the extension cord (holds my pc and monitor) into a watt-meter. That was the first time (that I noticed) that power would not come on at all. No green light, no clicks, nothing. I took it out and plugged it in normally. It came on after a few tries. Then this morning it wouldn't power on again. I tried a different power cable and power outlet. I read online that the button could be broken so I removed the bezel. Button seemed fine. I pressed it a couple times, wiggled the powercord. Suddenly it lit up again. I thought maybe it just needs a tight fit? But that's the last time the power came on and it hasn't worked since then.

I took the back cover off and started reading this forum and checking for bad capacitors, but everything seems fine (to my eye). No burn marks, no bulges. Another poster once had troubles with the shunt, but he mentioned a clicking noise - I hear nothing (except the button press).

Is there anything I can test with a meter?, or a particular shot of the board to show that you can look at?

I've uploaded more photos, including the meter I have to work with... because I've been reading online a bit - but I'm finding it hard to understand what setting to use for what part.

I'm sorry for a new reply, but there seems to be no edit mode.

With one of Bud's guides I found out how to test a couple voltage regulators, the G1084-18. They provide steady 1.3 volts, which seems to be what they need according to the datasheet. Plugging it in for testing today the monitor powered on - so that's not helping me much in diagnosing :/

I don't understand the part about testing the 5vdc and the 12-24vdc in the basic troubleshooting guide. "Test the 5dvc" is a long way from "put red wire on part X, dial knob to Z". I feel so newbie I'm not sure if the guide is even for me. I will keep reading.

Sorry I meant 1.8. If only it was not a typo

Hi, have same monitor it was working normally until I open it to clean with brush, nothing special and it was a bit dusty from inside. No bad caps or any burns, and when I assemble it it won't turn On at all, no green light no anything...Not sure if problem is in flex cable that connects front buttons or something else...Don't have multimeter to measure.
