I'm sorry for a new reply, but there seems to be no edit mode.
With one of Bud's guides I found out how to test a couple voltage regulators, the G1084-18. They provide steady 1.3 volts, which seems to be what they need according to the datasheet. Plugging it in for testing today the monitor powered on - so that's not helping me much in diagnosing :/
I don't understand the part about testing the 5vdc and the 12-24vdc in the basic troubleshooting guide. "Test the 5dvc" is a long way from "put red wire on part...
I've uploaded more photos, including the meter I have to work with... because I've been reading online a bit - but I'm finding it hard to understand what setting to use for what part....
Over the years my Dell 2408WFP would sometimes go back to sleep mode after claiming there was no video signal. Waiting it out, or CTRL-ALT-DEL in Windows usually fixed it. Not sure if this is related.
Yesterday I plugged the extension cord (holds my pc and monitor) into a watt-meter. That was the first time (that I noticed) that power would not come on at all. No green light, no clicks, nothing. I took it out and plugged it in normally. It came on after a few tries. Then this morning it wouldn't power on again. I tried a different power cable and power outlet....
Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hi guys. My name is Vincent and I know nothing about repairing electronics haha. So if I fail to report back on how a repair went I probably blew up the house.
