Screen darker when viewing straight on

I recently replaced the CFLs in my Hanspree LCD. I've realized when looking straight at it, the image center is darker. When viewing from a steep angle (from the side) it looks brighter and even across the whole screen.

Anyone know if this could be caused by me putting one of the plastic layers (polarizing/alignment/etc) in backwards when reassembling it?

That's possible. And also if there were put back in, in the wrong order. You wouldn't be the first person to do that.

I've replaced backlights on only two LCDs so far, and was very careful to keep everything in the same way, but I would guess if you did get one sheet backwards etc it could cause some problem like that.

I don't know how to tell which way around they are supposed to go though, I guess you'll just have to swap them around and see if it fixes the problem....

If you power up the backlights with the LCD glass removed and the effect is still visible that may help, just flip\swap the polariser sheets etc around until it looks normal... but you might have to have the LCD on top to check for sure... sounds like it would be a pain but doable.. just be careful and don't damage the LCD\TCON

Good news everybody (in my best farnsworth voice): the polarizer film was in backwards. when I took it out and held it up to the light the middle was blurred and the edges clearish. flipping it over caused the whole film to appear clear..ish.

thanks for the replies, I just won't admit how long I put up with the poor image (months) before deciding to take it back apart.

Macbook 2017 with touchbar (A1706) won't turn on after removing the screen
            by Ryan.man
Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

iphone XS turns off when press on screen.
            by smic717394
            Hi,

I have a iphone XS that came in for a screen replacement, the screen was badly cracked, and inside missing scues, on the back of the screen still the blue protector, the screen was a LCD. So we replaced the screen and all good, installed the screen and we noticed that pressing the screen with a bit of force but not excessive, the phone dies. After plugging the charger it turns back on, but again if you press it it dies. I open the phone again, and I can't see anything major, with the phone open, if I press on the logic board, battery, charging board, or even putting pressure on...

Vizio TV M50-C1 reboot cycle and static on screen
            by spice_disc
I'm currently trying to diagnose and fix my Vizio TV (Model M50-C1). I've tried a number of different basic solutions, but I'm trying to determine if my issue is currently a failing panel, T-Con board, or main board (or something else entirely) and whether or not it is worth my time to fix it. Details of the issue and what I've tried are below as well as why I think it is either a bad panel, T-Con board, or main board.

The Issue: The TV will be on and working fine but after the TV is on for ~5-10 minutes the screen will freeze (with sound continuing) until the TV reboots itself. While...

ipad pro 9.7" blew a SMD component while replacing the screen 🤦‍♂️
            by ipatch
i have an ipad pro 9.7" (1st gen) A1674 where i replaced the screen, but never attached the screen to the frame/chassis (glued down) due to the ipad being previously dropped so the new screen would never fit in the frame properly. so i need flex/bend the chassis to eventually fix the new screen in properly. so i temporarily just applied blue tape around the edges of the screen to keep it in place. when watching videos with the ipad the screen started flicker, so i though maybe the new quasi cheap amz screen i purchased was going out. so i disconnected then reconnected with power still on,...

            Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....
