Another Problematic PhotoVu Digital Photo Frame

    Hello again,

I'm in possession of another problematic 19" PhotoVu Digital Picture Frame, but this one is a 2007 PV1965 (Generation Two). I'm still pretty much a newb with electronics, but feel a bit more confident after successfully repairing the first one (thanks to all your help).

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=39421

    CURRENT SYMPTOMS:

Before this frame finally completely died, it exhibited the following symptoms for a few days prior … would boot-up but the LCD would only display the default photos stored within the frame's software. Just before the default photos displayed, there was bright green horizontal lines across the screen for about 15 seconds. None of the three USB 2.0 ports would recognize a USB flash drive with stored photos. Sometimes, disconnecting the power cord and re-connecting it, would enable one of the USB flash drives to load, but this became less and less frequent until they no longer worked at all. When the frame worked properly, inserting the flash drive with photos would automatically switch from displaying the default photos and load/display those on the flash drive. Also, there is a small push-button switch on the exterior of the enclosure that gives access to an on-screen, 10-option menu for things like powering the frame down, turning the display off, restart, reset to factory defaults, software update, etc). This switch no longer works either.

When I opened up the frame, I noticed that the 12V power adapter connected to the main computer board was humming/clicking and the LED light was blinking. Everything with the video board and inverter looked fine as did the 12V power adapter dedicated to them. I replaced the faulty power adapter with a matching, but higher quality Power Stream power adapter. At that point, the frame booted up again but exhibited the same symptoms that I described above.

I did notice that one of the capacitors downstream of where the power is connected to the main board was domed and also seemed raised up a bit off the board. Upon closer inspection it looked like something was pushing out from the bottom of that capacitor too. All the capacitors on this board are Nichicon.

The domed capacitor is a 1500uf, 10V, 105º. There is another matching one right beside it and a few 1000uf, 10V, 105º capacitors close by. There looks to a (here's the newb talking) a switching mosfet ? right next to the domed capacitor.

At this point, I know I will have to replace some capacitors and was wondering how many and which ones I should start with. Any replacements will be definitely be Panasonic (FR, FM or FC, in that order). I replaced ten or so capacitors on the previous repair, but that was a video board, not the main board. Should I just send the board into badcaps for repair?

Close-up photo of underside of main board is the area when the "domed" capacitor sits. I will gladly take additional photos as needed/requested.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Take care!

    Jim

      Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

      Graphics Card mounting frame
      by Kemer
Hello, I removed the graphics card from my laptop and I want to heat it in the oven. What I want to ask is, is it okay to heat the card without removing the metal mounting frame on it?

As you can see in the photo, there is a plastic (black) gasket between the metal frame and the card. It sticks the frame tightly to the card.

I previously removed the metal frame while heating it, but it is quite difficult to separate it from the surface it is attached to. If there is no problem, I do not want to remove it.

What worries me right now is the possibility that...

Reattaching new edge to edge LCD panel to tv frame - Hisense 55a6g and others
      by mecha1166
Some new tvs have an LCD screen attached to the outside of the frame with foam tape. These are "edge to edge" as they are called. I am trying to figure out how to reattach an LCD panel back up to the frame. The manufacturer used 3/16 inch foam tape along the top and rh/lh edges. I used a razor blade to separate the panel from the metal frame. The metal frame that the panel is taped to is 1/4 inch wide along the 2 sides and top. I completely removed the residue from the metal frame. There is some residue on the panel itself along the 3 edges, I removed almost all of it using alcohol and...

LED TV Samsung The Frame 55 inch QE55LS03RAU Standby Light only
      by ChristianBr01
      Hello everyone,
I got a Samsung The Frame 55 inch TV for free from uncle cause it is not turning on anymore. I am in the second year of training as an electrician so I have knowledge already but I am far away from to be a pro.
The TV has Standby but ist not turning on. A Friend of mine owns a 50 inch Frame TV so I checked the One Connect Box and the One Connect Cable there. Both are good and working normally. I have opened the TV case and measured some voltages on the Board.
What I already found is that the 12.8V are not an the connector to the main board connector to the power...
