    Acer AL2416

    Hi guys!
    I have another monitor issue

I have an old Acer AL2416 which doesnt seem to be working!

    Basically symptoms are.

I plug the power lead in and a vga cable the green acer logo comes on with a green light and the green light stays on. The acer logo stays on for around 2 seconds and the screen goes dark and I dont have a torch but I used my phones light and cant see any display.

However if i leave the monitor power cable plugged in for ten minutes and yank and reinsert the cable the acer logo flashes up but it is dim and broken up.

I have already checked the F3 and F1 fuses.

Caps dont look like they have burst.
    Ideas?

Did you check the ESR of those caps on the inverter?

        Re: Acer AL2416

The 4 caps on the one side of the inverter are starting to go. If you look close you will notice that they are a little darker green.
They do not usually bulge on the tops. Usually the rubber on the bottom will start popping out first.

        There actually are 3 fuses
F2 is usually the first to go, if that is ok, your transistors may be ok especially since you do see the acer logo. If the transistors were shorted and the fuse popped, you would not usually get to see the logo.
Even if the fuse is not blown, you could still have troubled transistors especially on this version of the board.
        Try changing the caps first.

I did notice that on the picture but I think the caps are all the same colour, unless the shade is alittle different and the flash makes them stand out.

I could only find two fuses. I will replace the caps first

I found two listings on ebay where I can get the caps from

            http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Acer-AL241...item5d32deee71

            http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ACER-AL241...item4d06dd9a9d

Not knowing anything about caps - which ones would you recommend.

            Thanks

The F2 is nearest to the power plug and next to the blue inductor

Ebay caps !! neither one tells what they are actually selling.

              try Farnell

Not too pretty since you did not get the capacitors that I pointed out to you
those a 8mm instead of 6.3 which is why they do not fit right and they are also not rated as well in lifetime hours
But if it works for you ?? OK

I tried to buy them but farrell have a min order of 20£.
I looked around and couldnt find another supplier. The only other suppliers were on ebay.. being weary of your post i didnt buy them from ebay

I was in sheffield and went past a parts store and popped in.
They said they had 100uf 35v low esr.

I read somewhere that monitors need low esr caps! Thats when i purchased them. ( I didnt even check the sizes like a numpty) it was only when I cut the old ones off I noticed these were bigger.

I then thought bigger caps = beefer.

                                      They'll work
Just make sure that they are out of the way of the cover
I think the ones you bought have a 3,000 life hour rating and the Rubicons were at 6,000
