    Viewsonic Vp201b: Flickery screen

    Morning all,

So I've acquired an old Vp201b that's not quite working properly, it has a tendency to intermittently flicker like it's losing vertical sync for a bit. Other times it's fine for a while. Aside from that tho it seems to work fine when it is working, no dead pixels or anything and it's got a nice resolution on it so it would be good to get it fixed if possible.

I've already dismantled it once and given it a look over and there was an obvious problem with the 450v capacitor on the PSU leaking electrolytic from one of the pins so I've replaced all the capacitors in the PSU just to be sure.

Having tested it the PSU appears to be generating 18V just fine but there's no substantial improvement in the problem which suggests to me at least the problem might be the mainboard which I was hoping not to have to go near.

Closer inspection of the mainboard capacitors shows no obvious visual faults although the left side of the board does appear to have some sort of brown crusty stuff over it though no obvious indication of what it is or where it may have originated from.

I've included a couple pics below but can soon do more, or more specific, ones if that helps.

    Any thoughts?

I have a VP201B and the same problem.

After fix the power board problem, I had changed all caps on AD board & voltages checked correct ,LCD still the random flicker.

Finally, I check the FPC to pannel (CN501), clean connector & FPC to solve it.

OK, well I check the cable but that seems sound and same problem still so at the moment I'm still leaning towards something being up with the logic board, which is a colossal pain as the capacitors on the main board are all little surface mount jobs and I was hoping not to have to go near them.

Anybody got a suggestion as to whereabouts on the mainboard might be a good place to start looking?
