Hi everyone..
This is my first post here; Looks like a great community.
Before we start, I have a basic electronics knowledge and wiring/soldering skills, but I'm not trained or educated in this.
Speak slowly and point just for safety! :p
The issue is with my Father's Octigen 19" widescreen, which is connected to his mac mini.
The mac sleeps at night.
I had a range of symptoms over a few weeks, so please bare with me.
Stage one:
Waking the mac from sleep would show pure white output on screen.
I proved the fault to be with the screen, not the mac.
Usually reboot or re-sleep/wake would kick the screen back into life.
Stage two:
Finally the backlight stuck on permanently whether the screen was off or on, so I opened it up and clean/reconnected all connectors.
No good. I just wrote it off and forgot about it.
A week later I powered on out of curiosity.
Stage three:
Next it starting showing symptoms of failing PSU caps.
It wouldn't even light up for me; It just clicked and PWR LED and backlight blinked every few seconds.
I've seen and repaired this before, so I set about recapping the PSU.
I replaced all electrolytics on the board.
That was today and as soon as I reassembled it the screen worked, but the backlight would remain lit if I powered off the screen.
This would happen with or without video input cable.
After a few power cycles it actually starting behaving perfectly normally.
Now it behaves normally with one exception. When I shutdown the computer, the screen just about blinks a tiny bit for a few seconds before properly shutting off.
It's barely noticeable in terms of how bright it is, but will gradually speed up and then cease.
I don't remember the last time my Father shutdown his Mac Mini. Maybe the screen always did this?
Anyway, I thought I'd ask while it's convenient to carry out work.
Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated.
PS:I don't really care at all unless this is symptomatic of something that will just deteriorate over time.
