Dell 2005FPW turns off and on, Flickering

I have a Dell monitor, a 2005fpw. It used to work fine untill a year go. A long time ago, it would very rarely "Reboot". The screen would go black for a breif seocnd, then the Dell "Image Perfection" screen would come up, and everything would be fine. THis may be accompinied by a loud "Whine" or "hiss" noise. This got MUCH worse over the past few months.

Now when starting it up, the screen is EXTREMELY flickery on a cold start. Example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oh-7-6Yb0Oc

The flickering slowly goes away. I ordered some caps and plan to repair the flickering myself.

However, I have a second, really bad issue. Often, my monitor suddenly turns off and tries to reboot constantly. THis seems to happen more often if the image being displayed is "Bright" like a white backround, the screen just shuts off, then it tries to start up to the "Image perfection" (More like image IMperfection if you ask me.) screen, just to shut off again.

Like it goes black, then you see the backlight come on, it whines for a breif second, then just shuts off again, then tries to start it up again and so on. the power button does nothing and the monitor has to be physically unplugged to stop it. Please help.

I'll post pictures tomorrow as the camrea my sister has is utter garbage. I have it opened up and am waiting for my soldering iron to come in. No caps seem damaged on the logic board or power board, no obvious cap failures. No leaking fluid or bulged caps. (Quite a few on the power board seem to be covered in a white goop, seems like glue.)

There is little to suggest until you have replaced the caps on the logic board.
That may be enough. Hopefully you ordered good quality and not from ebay.

    Welcome to the forum-
We can help a lot more if you please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back (in the same orientation) and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

    Examples of what is needed

It will be useful if you can say what the supposed fault was and a bit about yourself - skills tools etc.

Heres the pictures. Excuse the god-awful quality but its the best I can get.

One is of the logic board from the front, the other is the power board from the rear. I have to go really soon so I'll upload the rest once I get home.

Supposedly the flickering is because of cap c635 and c637. Both of them appear fine from the outside but I've read many websites and other posts stating that those cause the flickering and replacing them will solve the problem. The brand name is Sam Young.

However, the on-off issue is something else entirely, That is what I'm trying to diagnose.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm replacing those old "Sam-Young" caps with these. THe voltage is different, but the micro ferrads is the same. (The video explains to replace those 16 volt caps with 25 volt ones, and it should be fine)

I am using this to solder them in http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It comes with solder.

      http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Will use these to de-solder the faulty caps.

Lastly I bought this to help me see as I have poor eyesight and a mistake with the iron could be fatal to the logic/power boards. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Sadly none of these items have arrived yet. Please get back to me when you get the chance.

      Thanks.

Pics as you guess are not much use for troubleshooting. Wouldnt bother with more unless they are much clearer.
Caps should be ok - good name.
When you get those in we will look at the switching off problem, which could still be a knock on from the flickering. Does it make any difference if you reduce the brightness.

THe monitors apart right now and I don't plan to put it back together untill my tools come in.

(I cut my hand something terrible opening it. THose clips to remove the bezel must have been designed by evil scientists. The forks on the end may as well be the devil's pitchfork)

But yes, effecting the brightness did effect the monitor.

If I lowered the brightness, the whining would slowly stop or change in pitch but once I rasied it again it would start switching off and on. I didn't look into it through because I was fed up.

I ment, right before I gave in and opened it, it was whining, so I decided to try lowering the brightness, I noticed it stopped, raised it back up hoping it wouldn't shut off, it shut off, so I got angry, unplugged it, and took the whole thing apart, which is where I am at now.

The screen is not apart though. Opening up the screen is something I don't want to risk unless I've exhausted all other options.

Thanks for the link, but I've read that already. You may be on to something, because I could have sworn with every "Blink" you could see something spark/flash if you looked through the little holes on the rear side of the monitor, could be arcing. How should I go about checking the backlight to confirm if this may be the problem.

I can suggest nothing more than in that link - looking at the ends of the tubes for arcing/burning and trying the am radio trick.

                  by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.

Dell latitude 5590 turns off after CPU is 60 +/- 62 Celcius
                  by diamon
I have here a Dell latitude 5590 LA-F412P (i7 + NVIDIA GeForce MX130 dedicated GPU) with an issue.

The laptop works normally for a time and suddenly it's turning itself completely off (in Windows 10 and also in de bios > running diagnostic) and have to wait a few minutes before it can turned on again (pressing the power button does nothing), it looks like a CPU heat issue.

When I start in the diagnostic the memory (32GB memory, so it will take some time) test, I noticed that the laptop turns itself of when the CPU thermistor has reached 62 Celsius.
