    Lg 1953t smps pwm

There's no switching happening on the main transformer on this LG 1953T. no 12V out, no 5V out.

    I put a scope on U101 which is a FAN7601 PWM controller:

pin 1 -Start up- getting 160VDC off the bus (bus reads fine at 167VDC)

pin 2 - Current Sense/Feedback - is 0.13V so it is not being shut down here (>1V will shut it down)

    pin 3 - Latch/SS - comes up to 1.5V as expected during start-up then goes to 0V (over 75ms)

    pin 4 - RT/CT - is clocking

    pin 5 - ground

pin 6 - Out - nothing... flat line.. I want a square wave here to drive the FET. I can see some noise on here when it first connects to AC but then it goes away and never comes back.

pin 7 - VCC - is going from 8V to 12V as expected, it looks like the Startup current is charging the cap. It drops from 12V to 8V over the 75ms startup time.

    pin 8 - Vref - steady 5V.

Schematic attached. FET checks out - no shorts.

pins 5/6/7 are not shorted so the internal transistors seem to be ok. Looking for some thoughts before I go to the trouble of ordering another FAN7601.

    THanks!

PS. I do this in my spare time for a non-profit ethical computer recycling organization that provides these monitors to low income families, schools, etc.

Check C103. It may be bad without visible bloating. I don't have an ESR meter so I routinely replace these startup caps unless it is a known good brand like Rubycon or Panasonic.

If C103 is good, then see if D201, D202 and D103 to see if they are shorted.

The FAN7601,is one that I have seen fail on a number of occasions,so would not be surprised if that is the cause.

Check your FET has no gate-source short.

This is what I wanted to hear - that it is not an invincible NEV-R-Fail IC. Thanks!

If the fet isn't shorted G-S as mentioned above, yes, definitely the IC. Looking at the datasheet, this is yet another variation of the classic UC3842, with a couple more bells and whistles. You could sub in a 3842, but this one looks a bit more work than it's worth it... since it's still available, buy it. I replaced a FAN7554 by a UC3842, but that one only differs by one pin.

Onkyo DX-V500 Laser Disc Player - weird SMPS fault
              by dkneyle
This relic from a technology path that came to a dead end (but still has historical interest) was brought in with a dead SMPS, which is based around a MK1210 device. I got it going after a battle. It seems to have a strange design - if it's not getting feedback that the secondary is OK it cause the big FET to go into full conduction and overloads resulting in a blown fuse at best or something worse! I'm using a Dim Bulb Tester (70W/230V) which thankfully has saved the day a number of times whilst repairing.

Now, it loads a CD OK. The motor voltage output (which is built onto the SMPS...

Hi, Can we use SMPS Bench Power Supply for Laptop troubleshooting?
              by shamsudeen
Hi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.

i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply....

Acer Nitro AN515-55 weird behaviour on startup
              by estabilito
Hi, I've just repaired acer nitro an515-55 with specs:
              i7-10750h, rtx2060.
Laptop had damaged cpu and after replacement came back to life but i have weird problem with this machine.
After night or 2-3hours on first startup laptop shows acer logo, windows circle for second and then screen goes blank - machin stays on but i need to turn it off by holding power, on next startup laptop working just fine.
i've tried different bios, different vbios and same behaviour - clean windows install too.
              Do you have any idea?

Huntkey HK340-72FP SMPS shut on load above 2 amps
              by abhishekkumar1902
I have this Huntkey HK340-72FP PC SMPS where I am facing a strange problem where the SMPS shuts down when the load on any of its 12v output rails goes above 2 amps while the rating of each 12v rail is above 10amps capable.

              I have checked the following:
              1. All output caps are OK, and all output rails read correct voltages at no load
              2. All output diodes are OK
              3. NTC is ok
              4. Hi voltage cap on input correctly reads 150uF on LCR meter per the spec, also the bridge rectifier is OK
              5. No short in main switching MOSFET
              6. All other components...

Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Gen3 stuck on "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" screen
              by BMCappelletti
              Hi everyone.
Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Gen 3, stuck on the "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" screen.
Found a lot of people with this issue, but with no definitive answer. Some people managed to get away accessing BIOS, going to Startup and turning off "Option Key Display". For me that only removed the interrupt normal start up message, leaving only the Lenovo logo.
Most people say hitting Enter does not work. It's true, if you wait a few seconds. But if you hit Enter right away you get the options to enter BIOS (which works), run diagnostics (goes to a...
