HP F1503 Backlight won't stay lit.

I bought this smaller monitor for $2 hoping to use it as a dual display. It worked for all of 5 minutes then the screen went off, but monitor stayed powered on. No standby etc. Held my phone's light up to it and the screen is still on just no back light. If you shut the monitor off then back on they light up again but almost immediately shut back off. This also happens if you change the monitor's resolution. You see the screen for about 1 second and then back to no light.

I was hoping a capacitor just blew on the inverter, but they look fine to me. I'm very new at electronics and was hoping someone could walk me through some steps to take. I have included pictures, hopefully they are of good enough quality.

Try re-soldering the Three TOROID Chokes, you have to remove the old solder first, the failure is due to contamination on the legs of the TOROID. Very common with this 15" and the 17" version.

    Try that first.

I appreciate the quick response. I gave it a try, removed all solder from them, replaced with some 60/40 rosin core and same thing still happening

**EDIT** I've read the glue on the Toroids(on other models) is known to eat through traces. Is that a known problem for these?

This monitor uses 12vdc adapter, you have already verify that its output is steady at 12v with load?

*epic face palm* My multimeter had an accident with a drunk group of nerds and a taser so to test the adapter I just used another I had of the same output. After reading your comment I thought well, I will just give it a shot. 3rd adapter same model and output as the first one I tested worked. Turns out I have 2 faulty adapters... So much wasted time haha thanks for the help everyone. I appreciate.

This happened last Saturday and today I finally had time this morning before I went to work to replace two non brand capacitors

I will let you be the judge weather or not these are bad or not according to the blue ESR meter that I am using

I am comparing them to a brand new one that I installed

The display came back on and the programming was not lost which I was surprised by I would have thought that when the display went blank that so did the memory as well

I going to let it run for several days before I remount back on the wall next to the...

So this laptop seems to have some kind of failure. I bought it second hand and originally the previous owner said that they went to turn it on and it was presented with a quick flash of the power light the keyboard lit up and then the keyboard shut off and the power light went off as well but the battery indicator was white and after about 5 to 7 Seconds flashes orange really quick then shuts off and goes back to White. If the power button is pressed again the keyboard lights up really quick and then repeats. When I got it I could press the power button multiple times the keyboard light would...

LG 47LA620V Same LED Failing Back Light Issues
              by jdawg99
              Hi All,

I need some help with this one please. I am attempting a repair on the backlight. TV turns on and flashes the LG logo so stripped it down and found one faulty LED. Replaced it and tested on an LED tester and the strip was good. Put it back onto the PSU and it lasted about 20 seconds before going out again. Same LED had blown. Changed it for another type of SMD one (same voltage) and it seemed fine. Put the TV back together but it was quite dim. Noticed it was in power save mode so turned it off and the screen was bright. Left it on for half an hour only to come back to the...

              Acer Alienware Nitro 5 (GH51G LA-L181P Rev: 1C) & Dell Alienware M15 (GDP50 LA-k452P Rev:1) - Both Shorted PCH (SRKMA)!
              by reessi
              Hello:

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.

              I started on the ACER:

Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.

I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap...
