    Re: Sony SDM-HS75P

Im not an EE and I find these quiz bits very helpful. I keep meaning to get down to reading how circuits work but never do - I find it too much to take in in a big chunk so I like these small teasers - Thanks Plainbill - not sure about "Its easy" though.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Since it is an inverter, pin 2 must have the opposite state of pin 1, if pin 1 is 0volts pin 2 is 5volts..
I was, and you are correct. Give yourself a Gold star.

I guess it is time to give up..
I follow the trace of the PS ON pin and it goes to a 4.7K resistor then to a 0Ohm resistor and then to graphic chip..It doesn't output any voltage at all..I don't think I can do anything else.
I have also check the inverter chip mentioned before, its working fine.

            Before giving up,

            1) Check to make sure the on/off button is getting 3.3V and that voltage changes when you press the on/off switch.

            2) If yes, then trace the on/off button to the main board and see if that voltage appears.

            3) Another idea that might cause some damage? Hookup an old computer with an old graphics card to the lcd. Hardwire the PS_ON so it on. If you get a display and the only thing wrong is the PS_ON, you have a working lcd, but you can't turn it on/off via the power button.

If none of the ideas work, then it is time to give up since getting a new graphics chip is virtually impossible. You would have to replace the entire main/logic board.

PS. Good job of tracing the circuit path for PS_ON. Many people would have probably failed at this task and obviously we can't do it for you.

It was harder than you imagine..I had to desolder BOTH of the connectorsto follow the path that kept changing sides of the PCB..
I will try the tricks you suggested tomorrow..
Thank you all for your time!

I have had to trace something similar and yes I have to do both sides as well. This is where the continuity/beep feature on the multimeter comes in handy.

Of course, couldn't do it without beeper..I had to watch my hands and the probes at the same time, didn't have an extra eye for reading resistance..

Well I've try all of your suggestions but didn't work for different reasons.
                    1. Power button has 3.3 v but the moment I press it it dissapears..I mean not only I don't get 3.3v on the other pin of the button, I also "loose" it from the pin I previously had it.
                    2. For the reason above, I cant trace 3.3v on VGA board.
3.I have hardwired PS_ON,but when I plug the VGA board backlit shuts down.If I remove connectroe from VGA its working again..

                      1. is normal - that line goes to an input pin on the processor. When you push the button the line is pulled to ground.

                      3. That is because the processor is controlling the backlight, and turning it off.

Hi to all from Italy. I have the same LCD Monitor SDM-HS75P and for my side, It goes on first time for 5 minutes and I see images from my laptop linkted on the vga cable BUT after 5 minutes it goes off and when I tried to put on it remains only 1 second. So it seems that when it's cold it remain on much more and after, when it warms up a bit, it cannot display nothing more than 1 or 2 seconds. What I have to check? Caps are all in good shape, do not seem spoiled. Can I do something to make it works? Please help me.

Thanks for any possible solution and help

If you connect the monitor lit to a also lit pc this recognize the mon.?
I saw the "service manual", it's almost void unfortunately, try to:
                              1. from power off push togheter volume down and poweron, this is to access service menu, if nothing
happens i report you what s.m. says, it might appear a bigger menu with also this
                              entry:
                              2. INITIAL EEPROM: Initialize the EDID DATA at DDC2B EEPROM is saved system memory.

i don't know how usually you will use the menu, but if you don't see anything on screen
imagine to see it, maybe if you push "menu down" (or volume down) and press ok you activate
the menu 2 so try it and report if changes, if not maybe the service menu appears at the bottom of the normal menu, so repeat the point 1. then press "menu down" for 7 times then "ok" then "menu down" then "OK", report if it changes..

Thanks Davi, if you are italian please pm me. I saw now your answer after some months and now I have this monitor in my hand and I made a quick search on the net and discover my old question here on this forum, very strange, I saw also your answer now. I still want to make it work.
At first, I thought at bad caps but after I opened it, I saw that all caps are good, no strange shape or...
The first time as I said before, remain about 5 minutes on, I could see my desktop computer windows 7 background and also osd menu of the monitor. After it goes down and when I repush on the monitor, it remains few seconds, ok this is the story.

So after I will post this message, I will go to make tests your suggested me and I will say you then.

                                Thanks for now.

Understood but HOW I can do a factory reset?

please let me know which buttons I have to push...

cause now I could only push POWERON + Volume UP and a white screen appear with BURN IN... or something like that.

So you don't think are capacitors? or something that can go hot and after the first 5 minutes aproximately, then it remain only few secods? Why could be a logic failure and not an hardware failure?

                                      Thanks

                                          Did you try this:

                                          CONECT TO A WORKING PC/LAPTOP
                                          Turn the monitor off
                                          * Hold down the Menu button and the plus button
                                          * While holding the other two down, press the power button. Wait for the DVI connector graphic to disappear
                                          * Release all buttons
                                          * Press the minus button. The Service Menu should appear
                                          * Scroll down to Burnin Mode using the minus button
                                          * Press the Menu button to activate that setting
                                          * Press the minus button to set it to Off (it should be blue when selected)
                                          * Press the plus button to highlight Exit Menu

                                          OR THIS

Got monitor out of burn in mode by unplugging the power to monitor then while holding down the power button on monitor plugged in the power cord to the monitor all while it was connected to a running computer. Was able to turn the monitor off with the power button. When I pressed the power again the burn in mode was gone and the monitor was displaying what was on the laptop computer.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.

Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about...
