    220UF substitute with 470UF

    Hi,
I have several Acer AL1717 monitors with blown caps; can I use 470UF, 25v, in place of the original 220UF, 25v?
    Thanks!

No. Use the proper uF value. Doubling capacitance is likely not going to work.

We just had one person replace the original bloated 470uF 25V caps with 1000uF 25V and the TV stopped working. He then replaced it with the proper values (i.e. 470uF) and the TV works.

I suggest Panasonic FM for replacements.

PS. Make sure the diameter and height fit.

I agree with retiredcaps. - Use the original uF value.
        .
There is no way to guess what changing uF will do unless you know that particular circuit at schematic level like the back of your hand.
        If you don't then either:
        - Use the original value.
        - Draw out the schematic and do all the math to see what the uF change will do.
        .
Both Panasonic FM and FR are great choices for this.
Their specs are nearly the same but the can sizes can be different for a given uF so that gives you more physical size options if space is a problem.

I was hoping to use them, because the originals seem like junk-- but went ahead and ordered them anyways.
Hope they last longer than the first batch! Thanks!

How to choose a substitute mainboard
            by learnmore
            Hello again Community

Anyone verse on how you go about choosing a substitute mainboard for your TV repair. Like the chap in the video below sometimes a 1:1 replacement board is too expensive and reballing a mainchip(s) maybe outside of your skillset . In the video the poster states one needs to match the replacement board with the SMPS, T-con (if not built in) and panel (and substitute cabling be also be required).

I'm very interested in choosing a suitable replacement board for any model or make of TV and the general (or detailed if your willing) step this entails....

Pioneer RM-07 Active monitors cutting out from time to time
            by BigOof
I have a pair of Pioneer RM-07 monitors that I bought a while ago. When I was testing them I noticed that one speaker would cut out and I thought it was just a bad cable connection. At the price they were being sold for I was willing to take a risk on them. However, 6 months later and the one monitor still has the same issue. Most of the time it works, but there are times that the power LED is on but I get absolutely no sound. I can hear the relay clicking on/off sometimes and then it will/won't work depending on what it feels like. I've tried XLR and RCA inputs with the same issue. There's no...

Onkyo TX-SR607 HDMI problem showing a black screen intermittently
            by redwire
Onkyo TX-SR607 HDMI problem showing a black screen intermittently, audio was OK.
It would usually cut out a few minutes after power on, for maybe 1 minute then work OK, then cut out and go to black again. Or fade out to sparkles and noisy video.

Well known is these boards need recapping and there is a strange mix of parts on both sides of the board.

            The bottom of the board has 100uF 4V (5.3*5.3mm, qty 5) and 220uF 4V (6.6*6.6mm, qty 5).
Per the service bulletin, an issue is the Toshiba LDO's want low ESR for stability so I went with 100uF 6.3V polymer...

Can someone confirm if acetone will work?

They will not ship to Canada.

            Thanks for any help....

Can I replace KME cap with Samxon GF cap?
            by chth96
            Hello.
I have 29inch LG CRT TV,And Yesterday,Whenever I connect AC power cord to power outlet without switch on, I heard a sound like white noise, And When I switched on this CRT TV, It sometime displayed correctly But usually It won't last more than 20 minute and The screen begin to dark and It finally did not display at all for hours..
Today,I dismantled its plastic case and discharged the biggest capacitor(400wv 470uf) which still holds 250 voltage, and I finally detached PCB from cathode-ray tube.
I measured ESR value of most of caps in PCB with MESR-100 and I found that KME(25v...
