samsung syncmaster 172V, 2secs to black

    hello.
there is a very strange behaviour with this monitor.
    the test:
disconnected the upper CCFLs and tried 2 ones from a 22" WS (just for a try). worked!
fitted 2 used 17" CCFLs (from an old hannsG). didnt work. still 2sec to black issue. (only 1 ccfl lit)
fitted 2 new 17" ones. one didnt lit again, and went to black after 2 secs.
connected only one CCFL at one connector, the left one, worked for 2 secs. the other one didnt lit at all. very strange, when connected the 22ws ones, one although doesnt lit, it works, doesnt go black.

this monitor has two separate transformers for one section , so it has 4 transformers. maybe the one that doesnt light at all is faulty?

That sounds logical. I suggest checking the secondaries of the inverter transformers.

i might be blind or worse, but the secondaries show infinite ohms :S. the multimeter works well, measured another monitor inverter, showed 950ohms. checked the 4 inverters on this samsung, none of them showed any sign of life.. is this possible? the CCFLs Do light.

Try scraping the pins, to get to a shiny surface
Whatever I do, I consider it a success, if in the end I am breathing, seeing, feeling and hearing!

after further investigation i realized that i had to measure the HT pin of the inverter in respect to the ground. 3 of them showed 904ohms and the faulty one, 0 ohms.
its an SPI 8TT00006. 10 inverters would cost 35$ from a reputable ebay seller from china. worth it?

There are four factors to consider.

            1. What is the monitor worth? In the USA that monitor would sell for about $35-$45 in working condition.

            2. Some companies sell inverter transformers for $15 - $25 each plus shipping. By any standard $3.50 each is a bargain.

            3. Can you sell the extra transformers?

            4. Are the transformers available in smaller quantities?

Hi I cant see that you have posted picures of the boards but I believe some
people have had success in re soldering the pins on the "faulty" inverter transformers so you could try that. Also before you place an order It may be worth removing the old one from the board and retesting it just to make sure its not lacquer on the pins.

This transformer is used in a few other monitors. If like yours there are 4
on the boards and you could get a faulty board cheap somewhere it would be unlikely that all 4 transformers will be faulty.

thank you all. ill try resoldering the pins first thing, than will see.
this is sold in qt of 10 for 35$, 4 pieces for 22$ and 1 inverter for 10$. as i have read there is a series of samsung lcds (193s, 172v etc) which have this one so i think 10 inverters is a deal. all i care is the shipping time. 1 month! it will be shipped from china for free but i have to wait a lot.
i am new to this business cos i am an IT, software and little hardware. but i really love electronics, havent done anything special but i got patience and intuition. and thanks to this forum i see no obstacles from transforming my small pc repairing workshop (i must admit it isnt going well) into a hard-electronic repairing lab.
the monitor worth here in albania is 60$, but regarding the inflation and living costs its some kind of 300$ for you. im gonna ask him 20$ for it to be repaired. a new usual 19WS here costs 120$.

                  Samsung Syncmaster 740BF repair
                  by soopacrucial
                  Hi folks,

I'm new here and was wondering whether you might be kind enough to give me some advice on troubleshooting the following problem:

Quite a few years ago now, a couple of years from new, my Samsung Syncmaster 740BF LCD monitor starting playing up by making a buzzing noise and then the display would go blank. I seem to remember the blue power led would also go off when this happened but that I'm not 100% sure of. By pressing the power button I do remember I could at first get it working again but eventually the problem would come back. At the time I had read about...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
                  by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and
