It's a ceramic capacitor rated for 3kV. The capacitance value is not fully readable, check the value on the other one (they should be the same).

      yeah, it says 18J 3KV, so it's 18pf with a +/- 5% tolerence, correct?

i've been searching and havent found anything. most caps arent rated with that high a voltage.

i am by no means an electronics person, so excuse my ignorance, but which capacitor would do the job?

you can use a 1 nanofarad at 3kv for replacment.

but you gotta look at the cause of the failure. arcing being a possibility? those ceramics just dont "fail" like that. unless there is a cause.

This is just the direct output to the CCFL series'd with the capacitor. I don't see how there can be a cause of failure other than a defective part. If you have any cheap CCFL kits that people tend to shove in their towers these days, you'll find the same caps inside the little inverter boxes. Nab one from there if you have one readily available.

Digi-key has them, their part number P9645-ND. It's a Panasonic KGE series, designed for the 'Ballast circuit of LCD backlighting inverter'. The only problem is you will have to buy 10 of them. With shipping your total cost will be under $6.00 IF you are in the US.

Burnt pretty bad. I wonder how the transformer and the lamp are doing.

                        Ohhh-Kayyy.

Well, when you check back because replacing those caps didn't help please feel free to withhold other pertinent information. Parts suppliers need all the orders they can get.

Blown capacitor repair on MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT MECH OC
                            by MeetingIncapable
                            Hello,

I am new to repairing computer electronics, so excuse any mistakes I make.

A friend of mine had a broken graphics card (MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT MECH OC) and gave it to me. It does not power on or show any signs of life.
I identified what looks like the remains of a blown capacitor at the bottom of the board (see picture).

I wanted to replace the capacitor, but I have two questions:
                            • Does this repair have a chance of working? or is a blown capacitor a sign something else is wrong?
                            • How do I determine the rating/value of this capacitor? or something
                            ...

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

Bipolar capacitor for vintage Apple CRT monitor
                            by tony359
                            Good day all,

I have a question about some old monochrome Apple monitors.

Inside those monitors there is one bipolar capacitor. From the schematics I have it's part of the horizontal linearity circuit.

A friend replaced a bipolar 4.7uF 25V capacitor with a Nichicon bipolar 4.7uF 25V. The cap popped after about one hour. The new capacitor was much smaller than the original one but that's not a surprise as the original one was from 1980. (I am not sure whether the original was was actually 4uF and was replaced with a 4.7uF?)

                            The new capacitor:...

                            Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...

                            Hi Everyone

Lately I am experiencing the deja-vu incident on one of the led monitor like this.

The monitor will randomly blackout and display no signal and will recover again.
