Re: Dell E248WFP power cycling off/on
No prob RC.
Right, this is the state of play with replacements and the time it took to fault:
C622 - 1uF/100V - 17 mins.
C606 - 47uF/50V - 14 mins.
C611 - 47uF/50V - 5 mins.
C605 - 150uF/450V 32 mins. [nearest substitute for original 120uF]
Three more elects to do - C711/2/3 - all 470uF/35v - but they are across the 19v output so I can't see these making any difference.

Re: Dell E248WFP power cycling off/on
That would be the way I would do it just so I know what is root cause.
And thank you for attaching the pictures. My little netbook went crazy loading inline pictures (CPU at 70%) resizing the Gateway thread even though I told the OP in two different places not to post inline and offsite.Leave a comment:

Re: Dell E248WFP power cycling off/on
Forgot to mention that after each replacement I'm connecting all 3 boards but not the screen - it's a bastard of a job to set up the removed boards for measurements and also have the screen connected too. I'm simply using the Power LED as my fault indicator. And as I type this - BUGGER! - LED started flashing. Just on the 40 mins mark.
So on to the next cap [C623 - 2.2uF/50V].Leave a comment:

Re: Dell E248WFP power cycling off/on
Replaced the first electrolytic [C622 - 1uF/100V] and waiting to see if it will run longer than the previous 30-40 mins before faulting. I'm going to do the replacements on a one-by-one basis, hopefully this will help pinpoint the main cause of this particular problem and be an indicator for future reference.Leave a comment:

Re: Dell E248WFP power cycling off/on
Cheers PB.
The 19V output goes to a 'secondary power board' that then converts to 3.3/12 etc. which then supplies the SSB.
Electrolytic caps just this minute ordered, will be picking them up this afternoon. All heavier joints reflowed already, didn't make any difference.
Let's see what happens after the re-cap...Leave a comment:

Re: Dell E248WFP power cycling off/on
The fault is on the main Power board - with the other boards disconnected it still faults.
Voltage across main cap (C605) is 330VDC STBY/402V RUN.
Primary DC output to other boards is 18.9V STBY/RUN.
Once the fault kicks in both the above voltages fluctuate on STBY and RUN.
Power board is marked 4H.0DG02.A01
There are a number of possible ways to troubleshoot this. I'd suggest disabling the STBY/RUN input (as shown in the bottom picture, second pin from the right on CN701). The supply should still work at full load.
Another option would be a complete recap, certainly this has the earmarks of a defective cap destabilizing the circuitry. Before that, I would suggest checking carefully for bad solder joints.

Best bet would be to take it apart and post some good focused photos of the power and signal boards.Leave a comment:

Dell E248WFP power cycling off/on
This has got me puzzled with the following problem -
The set runs fine for 30-40 mins and then the display turns off and the green Power LED starts flashing. The self test screen then tries to start but almost immediately turns off. It then tries to start again but again almost immediately turns off. And so it goes on, in a continuous start/stop loop.
This happens on both inputs with different interconnect leads.
If it's left unplugged for a few hours once plugged in and switched on it will run again for about 30-40 mins before returning to the same off/on cycling.
Any ideas before I delve inside?Last edited by dumpystig; 12-10-2011, 01:30 PM.Tags: None

by usbdeviceHi all
There's two other threads about this monitor with seemingly the same problem. The problem was resolved in one case by replacing the entire PSU board and in the second one by replacing an unknown IC.

The first one has pictures of the pcbs and I noticed that there's one IC and assorted caps not populated on mine (but the PCB itself looks identical) so I thought that'd warrant a new thread.

by SuperJamesThis one's a weird one, and still unsolved despite it having gone back to Dell once.
Specs
i7-8750H, GTX 1060 Max Q, 500GB SSD & Seagate 7mm 1TB HDD. 17.3 IPS screen. This has the fingerprint reader in the power button.
Backstory
I bought this from eBay, from a wallpapering shop. £650 in 2020 which was a good price considering it's a gaming laptop. Physically it's in perfect shape, apart from the hinge mounts on the palmrest failing in the time I've had it (I have a new palmrest for it). The usual thin plastic crap modern build quality!...10-23-2023, 04:09 PM -
Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by PantherDaveHi all!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅
I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

by Mark01Hi guys,
This is my first post! 🚀
I have no idea what I’m doing, but I’m learning by trial and error.
I’m currently working on a Dell Optiplex AIO 7490—one of a bunch of AIOs that mysteriously failed to POST just a few days after the warranty expired. The original issue was that the PC worked fine until it was rebooted, after which it got stuck on a black screen (no backlight), with fans spinning at normal speed and a solid white power LED. Forcing it off by holding the power button would just cause it to switch on automatically and get stuck again on...07-04-2025, 12:54 PM - Loading...
