    Faulty Monitor. Kinda works...

Hi everyone, new member and first time poster here.

I have an Acer AL2416w monitor which is a bit faulty. I have noticed similar problems with this monitor on the forums but before anyone tells me to use the advice in the other posts, I thought I'd do my own post because I have a little more detail which may pinpoint the problem.

So a week ago, the screen started to get a little darker each day. By the 4th day, the whole left hand side was almost unreadable, only for me because I knew what the icons where without seeing the text below them. On the 5th day, I heard a high pitched whining noise, then it went completely black. The green light stays green at the bottom too so it is getting a signal.

I have experience soldering in consoles etc but not in monitors so my knowledge of the part names are very limited. By matching up names to pictures in other peoples posts, I have noticed the 2 'mosfets' look slightly overheated ( a bit like burnt orange around their edges ), but apart from that, everything looks ok.

After I left it switched off for 2 days, it worked again, but much duller than usual, a slight flicker and almost quiet, but audible high pitch whine again. As before, it gets darker by the hour.

I was hoping because I noticed it get dark on one side before it went completely that it will help someone with more experience know what the problem might be...

    Thanks in advance.

I suggest you take it apart and post some photos of the power supply and inverter board using the "manage attachments" button. This model is notorius for the 100uf caps on the inverter board failing. Take a look at the bottom of each 100uf cap. If it's buldged at the bottom, then it's failed. Replace all 10 of them.

      Thanks for the reply...

I'll do my best to take some pictures for you tonight and upload tomorrow. I'm not sure which caps the 100uf ones are (would that be the label on them or a specific location on a certain board?), but none of the caps are buldging on the bits that I can see. The power board still has another protective metal plate over it which I haven't removed yet but the caps on the inverter board (as far as I'm aware is the left hand one) are fine...

Either way, I'll take as detailed pics as I can later.

Read this post completely. It has the largest number of replies and will help you to understand what you are going to need to do. Then attach pictures of the top and bottom of each of your two boards. Before attaching make sure they are clear enough to read the printing on the boards.

Ok great. I'll have a good look through that post now. In the mean time, here is a few pics. If you need a pic of a specific part of a specific one let me know and I'll do my best with my phone. I brought it to work with me so...

            Hanns.G Hi221 Monitor - Works For A Second & Then Blank Display
            by RetroComputingGrotto
I've got a Hanns.G Hi221 Monitor that works for a moment and then the display goes off but the power LED indicator remains on. If you power it off and back on again it does the same thing, it comes on and then the display goes blank. From a cold start it takes 10 seconds or so before the display goes blank but if you turn it off and then back on again after it already being on it goes blank a lot quicker so I'm assuming something is getting hot which is causing the display to go off.

I've uploaded a video of it happening on YouTube:

Problem: Works sometimes. When on, stays on until screen or laptop are turned off. Restarting can take weeks.

Background: Bought new around 2010. Used for 2-3 years, then had problems, stopped using. Sat around until a few months ago. Plugged it in to laptop and it worked! Asus G15 5980HX - 6800M - No Display on Laptop - HDMI/Display Port external monitor works fine. Fried Component.
            by amuse619
            Hello!
Looks like I fried something when my EDP cable got squeezed on the hinge. I replaced the cable but still no display. Laptop works fine with external monitor connected through HDMI and Display Port-USB C port. I took it apart and I see a burnt component. Can anyone help me identify what this component is? I tried to use schematics for another G15 but it does not match on the amount of pins and size. I attached pictures. The component has a label on it - (21A29)

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54. displays on the external monitor and works fine, the issue is NO display on the internal screen
            by DqMagetz
            Good day!
I have a customer's laptop — Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54 (EH5VF - LA-H501P). It has a display on the external monitor and it's working fine, but the issue is NO display on the internal screen. I already replaced the eDP cable and checked the LCD connector pins.

            Here are the voltage readings:
            • Input – 19V (stable)
            • +LCDVDD – 3.3V briefly, then drops to 0V
            • EDP_HPD – 3.3V briefly, then drops to 0V
            • PCH_BKL_PWM – 2.2–5V briefly, then drops to 0V
            • EC BKOFF# – 1.8V briefly, then drops to 0V
            • PANEL_OD_EN – 0.3V

Is it possible that the EC chip is corrupted or damag...

Seeking Advice: Repairing Dell U3425WE Monitor with Faulty USB-C/Thunderbolt Ports
            by Borse2008
            Hi everyone,

Looking for some advice or opinions on what to do with a monitor issue I’ve run into. Apologies in advance is this crossovers a few forum categories.

I have a Dell U3425WE, which I've recently replaced with another model. That said, the original unit is still fully functional in terms of the display — it works perfectly over HDMI and DisplayPort. However, the USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 ports have stopped functioning correctly. The Issue:
            • The 90W Thunderbolt 4 port (circled in the photo) no longer charges or powers any device, including laptops or MacBooks.
