HP 15" LCD backlight - inverter caps?

    HP Pavilion F50 D5063 15" LCD monitor

The backlight is dim, and flickers except when the brightness is turned down to around 50%. I replaced the two CCFL tubes, ordered from http://www.lcdpart.com, they are brighter than the originals but still only usable in a dimly lit room.

Inverter PCB has 7 electrolytics marked:

    220uF 16V
    SG 105C
    L127(M)
    Lelon

They are approx 8mm x 8mm. Replacements cannot be any larger, due to tight clearance to metal shielding. Any suggestions of a retailer with small quantities would be appreciated.

      lelon=crap.
      change them.
it seems micro miniature caps dry out faster than standard ones.

schspeedster has a problem with height clearance so needs 220uF 16V replacement caps but similar case size is 8wx7h

        any idea guys

Could go a couple of mm longer, any possible issues with the can being too close to the metal shielding? Not like 12-16VDC is going to arc over but maybe RF interference? I could drill a hole in the shield if I had to.

Xicon MLRL series Sub-Miniature seems to be the right 8x7L size for the 220uF 16V, is on the Xicon datasheet but not carried by Mouser or Source Research (only have up to 10V) Any other sources for Xicon MLRL?

              RF - i doubt it.
cap vents touching the shielding - any idea if that will be a problem guys

              why not lean the caps?

Fixed! Dim flickering backlight is now bright. These were slightly longer but just fit. This message composed with free electrons from caps found here:

Re: HP 15" LCD backlight - inverter caps?

Sounds a bit like the backlight problem I'm having on my dad's laptop (a Fujitsu Siemens one). When the backlight works, it works fine - but occasionally it seems to flicker and die. Sometimes you can get it back by tilting the screen/lid back and forth a few times, but other times a cut-out operates. The only way to get it back then is by shutting down and restarting the laptop.
The fact I can get it back by tilting the screen seems to suggest a loose connection somewhere (and repeated power surges from the flickering operate the cut-out), but could it also be a bad inverter?

Also, I frequently get a strange picture effect - anything that's supposed to be black on the screen comes out as vertical green lines O.o

Edit: The parts express link is being caught by my web filter at work, because it contains the s-word
You know there's something wrong when you open your PC and it has vented Rubycons...

Probably broken cables, connectors or solder joints.

Throw away the shielding. In fact remove any shielding from LCD monitor if possible. They're only good for frying caps to venting point.

I've remove shielding from LCD monitors whenever it's possible and so far those repaired ones never had their caps venting again. Ever!

Seasonic B12 BC-550 – barely 2 years old and with BAD CAPS already!

I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

Looking for help with a Viewsonic VP230mb where the backlight comes on only momentarily
                        by lostone
Hello, I came here after finding some similar questions asked on other monitors and hope someone here can help me get an ancient Viewsonic VP230mp (23" 4:3 LCD) back to working condition.

First a little background, I have a background in computer and electrical engineering, and I'm smart enough to know I know nothing about LCD displays and how they work. For this topic I'm as green as they come.
When the display is turned on the viewsonic logo displays in the uppper left for 2 seconds then the screen goes black, the power LED is green (on) and when a computer is connected...

this tv is throwing me for a loop. do samsung tvs no longer have the backlight self test feature built into the power supply?
i tested the backlight with my LED tester and it lights up both strips. one of them reads 100v and the other reads 63.7v.
unplugged mainboard from power supply but left backlight plugged in, and then plugged psu wall power in. expected to see backlights light up but see nothing.
according to how ive diagnosed in the past, this would almost always be a bad power supply. replacement power supply was cheap like 20$ from ebay. but still i get not even...

Honda generator inverter 230v 1900uf caps
                        by JFA
I have a Honda generator with a faulty inverter. The inverter is encased in black resin with just the tops of a dozen small electrolytic caps and four 230v 1900uf electrolytic caps poking out of the top of the resin. The plastic cover of one of the 230v caps was burned off but there was no sign of bulging and the capacitor can was in good condition. The heat source looks likely to be from the outside rather than from the component itself but since the inverter is basically unrepairable, I chiseled away and removed the capacitor. I had to destroy the capacitor so had no chance to test it but it...

                        Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps
                        by eryjus
                        Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."
                        ...
