    Viewsonic VX510, no backlight

    Hello again

As soon as I mentioned to my wife I had fixed the 17" Dell monitor of my previous thread, she says "great! I'm needing one for my office"...

So... next in line is this Viewsonic VX510. When I got it last year the backlight wasn't working at all (I think I had posted something, but I can't find it). I opened it up and found some dubious-looking capacitors, so I just replaced them. As far as I remember there were no changes in behavior, so it went back to the stack of "to do".

Well... I put my hands on it yesterday... The monitor turns on but there isn't any backlight, except for a very quick, light flash when you turn it on or off. There are no obvious burned components on the PCBs, and capacitors look fine -of course-. I measured the volts at the connector and they are correct -except I don't know what I should be seeing on the "dimming" pin-. Is there anything obvious I should be looking next?

I can't find the picture I took when I replaced the capacitors originally, but here are the ones I took yesterday, as well as the schematic for the power PCB (I have highlighted the caps I replaced)

    TIA...

You can ignore the 'dimming' pin for now.Check Q107,108,109 and 110 for short circuits, also Q105 and Q113.The other suspects are the ccfl's thenselves, and these older Viewonics,do have inverter transformer problems, therefore measure the secondary resistance of PT101 and 102, looks like between pins 7 and 8 of each and you are looking for a resistance of between 400-1000 ohms, and the readings MUST be within a very small tolerance compared to each of the readings of about 3-5%.

Oh my... exactly one month later I'm back. Isn't it wonderful what replacing a car's engine makes for the forum's continuity?

      Anyway...
I tested the transistors in-circuit, and none of them shows a short-circuit. There's something weird with one of them (Q113), though: If you test it after probing Q105, it will make my DVM beep for half a second. It won't happen again until you test Q105 again. Q001 shows a similar behavior.

I measured the resistence of the secondary on PT101 and PT102 (again in-circuit). There seems to be a typo on the schematic, though, as it shows pins 7&8 on one transformer and 7&10 on the other one (pins 7-8 are connected together on both transformers). The readings I got between 7&10 are ~291 ohms on both transformers.

I guess there isn't an easy way to test the CCFLs, right? Is there anything else you can think of?

      Thanks for the patience!

The easiest way to test backlights is to borrow some from a working monitor, and with substitution see if you can find a combination where the back lights will stay on.
There is no need to remove the backlights from the LCD panel, Just position things where you can plug the leads into the inverter
Whatever I do, I consider it a success, if in the end I am breathing, seeing, feeling and hearing!

Fixing a dimming zone TV with LEDs not lighting up. Dimming zone circuit introduces added variable to diagnose LED and/or Dimming Zone Driver board? Some 1/2 rows of LEDs appears to be out in active dimming zone off AND some brightness flickering with active dimming zone high while playing changing video

Vizio indicate this TV has 10 dimming zones. However, LED strips and Zoned light driver connector suggest 12

Looking for help with a Viewsonic VP230mb where the backlight comes on only momentarily
          by lostone
Hello, I came here after finding some similar questions asked on other monitors and hope someone here can help me get an ancient Viewsonic VP230mp (23" 4:3 LCD) back to working condition.

First a little background, I have a background in computer and electrical engineering, and I'm smart enough to know I know nothing about LCD displays and how they work. For this topic I'm as green as they come.
When the display is turned on the viewsonic logo displays in the uppper left for 2 seconds then the screen goes black, the power LED is green (on) and when a computer is connected...

this tv is throwing me for a loop. do samsung tvs no longer have the backlight self test feature built into the power supply?
i tested the backlight with my LED tester and it lights up both strips. one of them reads 100v and the other reads 63.7v.
unplugged mainboard from power supply but left backlight plugged in, and then plugged psu wall power in. expected to see backlights light up but see nothing.
according to how ive diagnosed in the past, this would almost always be a bad power supply. replacement power supply was cheap like 20$ from ebay. but still i get not even...

Guide me through repairing a Dell p2210f LCD ccfl backlight monitor
          by DanPoka
I bought this p2210f dell monitor to fix. Schematic is the same as p2210.
Behaviour is that monitors comes on but then backlight switches off almost instantly. If I look with flashlight I can still find the "No signal message". So definitely a backlight issue. Trying to advance the issue I proved that the protection circuit is switching off the backlight by shorting out C3 and resistor to disable the INL chip then re enable by removing the short.
This is where it gets interesting. When I disassembled the monitor to solder leads on c3 capacitor I noticed the backlight flickered...

          No Backlight Macbook A1990 820-01041
          by Comp_Pro
          Hello all,

Am trying to figure out this backlight issue with this A1990 Macbook Pro.

          Tests performed:

There is no backlight even with a good screen.
Backlight IC is receiving the correct support voltages.
          Fuse F8400 ok
          Current sense resistor R8400 ok
Backlight IC is receiving 3.3V on enable pin.
Backlight IC receiving voltage from PPBUS_G3H, aprox 12.5V.
Backlight IC receiving 5V from PP5V_G3S
Backlight IC BKLT_SCL and BKLT_SDA both measure 0.545V diode mode to ground
          I2C_BKLT_SCL and I2C_BKLT_SDA both measure...
