    Dell E176Fpb flashing/blinking -> Solution?

    Ok... this is my chance to give a little bit back to the forum, if just a little bit

    At the beginning of the garage sale season I picked up a Dell monitor that was being dumped. I spoke briefly with the person throwing it to the garbage, and he said the screen was just flashing the dell logo. I tested it, and in fact the monitor seemed to turn on fine, and after ~10 second or so it started flashing the dell logo. I just put it in the pile of crap (I mean...fine electronic equipment) waiting to be fixed, until today. I connected it again, and I realized the monitor was actually turning itself on and off repeatedly.

    So:
    • Symptoms: monitor turns on, and after a few seconds it turns itself off (both screen and green power led), then repeats this at different frequencies. I couldn't find this exact problem at Badcaps.net
    • Background: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...90&postcount=2
    • Noticed: if I pressed down at IC601 (8 pin) on the main PCB the flicker stopped -most of the time-. Moving the signal PCB changed the flickering somewhat
    • What I did: applied some flux and new solder to the inverter transformers, C824, C826, IC601 and CN701
    • Result: I'm typing this on a free monitor (knocks on wood)

    It looks like when they were putting these monitors together they were either trying a new method or a new machine, because the solder points look really bad. Some points look like they have very little solder, but I still found some excess solder between two pins of one of the transformers, and an air bubble that had formed underneath the solder points of the matching connector to CN701.

    In any case the monitor seems to be working. Hopefully this post will pop up when another person has a similar problem.

    (Thank you RetiredCaps!)
