Opinions of LCD monitor repair kits?

Before finding this site (which looks like it will be invaluable), I found a few sites offering packaged kits of capacitors for LCD monitor repair.

Now, I think I could -- between reading here and looking at the actual components -- come up with a list of what I need. But a brief look at Digi-Key has me feeling a little intimidated. There are so many choices beyond the basics. (For example . . . lead separation! Lifetime!)

Which leads me to wonder . . . has anyone tried out the various part-bundlers?

I know that our host bundles motherboard cap kits . . . I'm specifically interested in LCD monitor repair kits. I have a ViewSonic vx2235vm with a half-dozen bulging and/or oozing caps!)

    Any experiences appreciated!

I used a monitor kit from Ebay on a Dell 17". It had caps and 4 Rectifiers. Replacing all of these got the monitor working again. I am still using it almost everyday. That was over 6 months ago. I think the guy selling kits on ebay today is the same one I got mine from. Hope that helps.
Have you ever stopped to think and then forget to start thinking again?

See this thread, starting with PlainBill's post #13.

Digikey is always great to deal with, and you don't have to worry about their capacitors being genuine.

Let me suggest a quicker way to search. Put as much information as possible in the search box. For example,

      470uf 25v radial bulk fm

Pick the size you need. Measure the lead spacing from the under side of the board, but most larger electrolytics are 5mm and smaller ones 3mm. Digital calipers make this quick and easy, but a ruler works.

If no results are found, or the right size isn't available, or the series you want is out of stock, change the series in the Keywords box at the upper left. If there weren't any in FM, then change the FM to FR or FC and search again.

        That is incredibly BAD advice.
        I'll explain over there later.

Re: Opinions of LCD monitor repair kits?

          All:

While I to intend to select my own components at Digikey someday, I wanted this first repair to start with a "known correct" set of parts.

Based on comments from folks referred here from lcdalternatives, I gave them a try. Everything went fine. Very fast getting the package out the door. The kit was $14 and postage was $1.71. Came in a ziplock with a checklist of the caps inside.

Based on this one order, I'd give them a thumbs-up.

(Oh, and the repair went fine. For that I can only thank the folks in the monitor repair areas of the forum!)

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

            AOC AG493UCX 49-inch monitor - Firmware request
            by wattage
            Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...

            Hi Everyone

Lately I am experiencing the deja-vu incident on one of the led monitor like this.

The monitor is HP 27es LED Monitor

The monitor will randomly blackout and display no signal and will recover again.

LG 23MP55HQ LED Monitor turns off after a few seconds or flickers.
            by Rick_1234
            Good evening, gentlemen.

I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.

To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.

Wise Wing F199 19'' LCD monitor - recapped
            by momaka
Looking through my repair pictures and notes, it's been a long time since I posted anything in the LCD monitors section. So here goes that.

I'm dedicating this thread to one of the very first LCD monitors I repaired (if not the first one), which was more than 10 years ago now. The monitor is a Wise Wing, model F199. It's a 19” CFL-backlit LCD. I got it for free off of Craigslist in 2009 from a guy, who said he bought it for cheap from Wallmart and the monitor worked only for a little less than 2 years before quitting.

When I saw the Craigslist post, I wasn't...
