Can you crack a screen like this??

I'd picked up a 15" LCD for $15 a while back. It was the type with external power brick, it has absolutely no power supply on board, so it needs both 5v and 12v. The seller turned out to be a store clerk at one of the electronics stores i visit regularly.

When i got on the subway (where there was good lighting) i immediately noticed a number of black blotches. Cracked screen. He agreed to give me my money back, i ended up dropping by at his work with it. Today i went to that store to buy some 18awg copper wire for winding inductors. It turns out he kept the monitor there, and he found someone who wanted the electronics. Probably $5 is better than having an useless monitor around... So he asked me if i could take it and wire a power connector to it, so he can show that guy that it lights up then drop by again when i have time and he'll buy me a beer. Oh alright...

The retention tab on one of the LCD ribbons was missing so i never bothered to even power it up first time around, i was convinced it was cracked anyway. I stole a tab from a junked dvdrom, fitted it to the panel, that secured the cable nicely. I soldered a molex to it and plugged it into a PC power supply. It lit up alright... but it looks even weirder than i'd imagined with the screen off. I've never seen a screen like this - i think i couldn't crack one in this style even if i tried. What's funny is that unlike a typical screen crack, the blotches will not expand further if i press on them.

    Take a look...

Pressure cracks from the casing, maybe? Could also have frozen. I'll have to get a picture of my old 17" that I still use as a secondary monitor. It's cracked around the entire outside of the panel.
    Ludicrous gibs!

I couldn't see it being from the casing. From something put on top of it, maybe. He said he had a lot of 15 of those and this was the last one, who knows how they were carried.

That's an interesting theory, but not viable at this time of the year.

You know what's funny? Under the black spots you can actually see the picture. Edit: I'm going to give it back now and get my beer, i used it in portrait mode as a second monitor for a short while. Now i realize i really do miss having a second monitor...

I have an old Pixo AT500-s that has a similar blotch near the center of the screen. It started as a stuck green and blue pixel. It's now .75" in diameter, it's a shame cause it had a good picture. This display was bought new in '05 and never been dropped or exposed to freezing temperatures. I'm guessing it's a manufacturing defect in the panel itself. Not worth fixing unless I can find one with bad p/s or logic boards. The power supply on my model is internal to the display. There are models like yours, unique, where it's and external 'brick'.
Stupidity should be a crime, especially for drivers. I have NO patience for them.

This one had crappy viewing angles anyway.

Macbook 2017 with touchbar (A1706) won't turn on after removing the screen
              by Ryan.man
Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

              Samsung UE55JU6800K half screen dark
              by Chrissygizmo
Hello everyone, I’ve just been given a Samsung UE55JU6800K smart tv as it had white spots on the screen due to the led lenses falling off. After refitting them & putting the tv back together I thought it was a nice easy fix for a free bedroom tv , then I tried it before screwing the back into place. I realised that the right side of the screen was darker than the other side, I removed the screen again as I thought the backlights had failed but they are fine.
I put the screen back in place & turned it back on . The screen seemed to be ok again but different screens on the same...

Vizio TV M50-C1 reboot cycle and static on screen
              by spice_disc
I'm currently trying to diagnose and fix my Vizio TV (Model M50-C1). I've tried a number of different basic solutions, but I'm trying to determine if my issue is currently a failing panel, T-Con board, or main board (or something else entirely) and whether or not it is worth my time to fix it. Details of the issue and what I've tried are below as well as why I think it is either a bad panel, T-Con board, or main board.

The Issue: The TV will be on and working fine but after the TV is on for ~5-10 minutes the screen will freeze (with sound continuing) until the TV reboots itself. While...

ipad pro 9.7" blew a SMD component while replacing the screen 🤦‍♂️
              by ipatch
i have an ipad pro 9.7" (1st gen) A1674 where i replaced the screen, but never attached the screen to the frame/chassis (glued down) due to the ipad being previously dropped so the new screen would never fit in the frame properly. so i need flex/bend the chassis to eventually fix the new screen in properly. so i temporarily just applied blue tape around the edges of the screen to keep it in place. when watching videos with the ipad the screen started flicker, so i though maybe the new quasi cheap amz screen i purchased was going out. so i disconnected then reconnected with power still on,...

Trouble to identify part (Lunii screen) for replacement
              by FreakyMex
Hello guys. I'm a complete noob in electronics. I'd like to repair my child Lunii's (a "story box"), basically an audio player that allows the childs to choose between several options the places, characters, objects of the story, and then play a story according to the choice of the child. There is a screen that display the selected option before each choice. The Lunii fell and the screen is now broken.
I'd like to repair it (probably just have to change the part, because the lunii still works perfectly fine) but I can't manage to identify the part/order it online. Do you have any...
