HI, I recently came into ownership of this Gateway 2185w lcd monitor and it did not work when I got it. When I plug it in I get a constant blue power light like my other gateway but I get no picture and unlike my gateway fpd1975w I cannot press this power button and get the blue light to turn on and off. I have already replaced all the caps on the pwer board with theses caps (http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommer...-P1660293.aspx) I dont rember what who manufactures the caps I ordered but I know there not radioshack caps, I do know that they are black and gold with an "M" symbol on them. Either way even after replacing main board caps no pic, Im thinking about replacing video board caps but I would like some advice first before I put more money into this project.

It will help if you post clear focused pictures using the manage attachment function of your boards. We would like pics like this ...

Do you have a multimeter? If yes, check the secondary voltages going to the logic board.Last edited by retiredcaps; 03-23-2011, 10:19 PM.--- begin sig file ---
If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.
We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.
Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

It sounds like the caps you received were Panasonic FM series. Good quality, no problems there.
Note the links in my signature. I would like several pictures. Make them as close to 2000 x 2000 pixels as possible. Use Manage Attachments (below the text entry area) to attach the pictures.
First, a picture of the back of the monitor with everything connected. Next, pictures of the top and bottom of the power supply, inverter (if it's a separate inverter), and last (and most important), of the top and bottom of the signal (logic) card. While it is possible the caps on the signal card are responsible, it is more likely a voltage regulator has failed.
PlainBillFor a number of reasons, both health and personal, I will no longer be active on this board. Any PMs asking for assistance will be ignored.

With your Fluke 77, measure the voltage regulators on the logic card (U15, U16, and U18). Report all the DC voltages.
There might be another voltage regulator (U17?) just above C100, but with the angle of the pic, I can't be sure.--- begin sig file ---

Yes there is a VR above C100 (called Reg 1) and its got a capacitor soldered to it, dosnt look manufacture installed. Anyway I measured the measurements by A= top and bottom B=Bottom and Middle C= Middle and Top prongs on the regs.
Reg1 A=5.08V B=3.29v C=1.795v
U15 A=3.27v B=1.803v C=1.472v
U16 A=5.08v B=3.29v C=1.795v
U18 A= 3.26v B=1.806v C=1.457v

Re: Gateway FPD 2185w No Picture Con. Blue Pwer Lt
Okay, now for each voltage regulator, list the part number. The part number will tell you if the voltages are correct or not. For example, the suffix in a part number like AS1117-33 denotes 3.3V DC output. AS1117-18 would denote 1.8V DC output.
Your voltage readings look okay because most voltage regulators output 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V DC. However, you must compare the output with the part number to ensure it is 100% working.--- begin sig file ---

The underside of the power board is the first pic.
Here are the Pics of the underneath of the inverter/logic board.( 4 pic)
and a pic of that suspicious cap.
and no typo's U15 is putting out 3.3 though.

Reg1 (FS8860 33PJ0072) A=5.08V B=3.29v C=1.795v
U15 (AIC 1084-33PM) A=3.27v B=1.803v C=1.472v
U16 (LD1117A L18ASJ)A=5.08v B=3.29v C=1.795v
U18 (LD1117A L18ASJ) A= 3.26v B=1.806v C=1.457v
Look at U18. L18ASJ implies 1.8V DC output. B=1.806 which is correct.
If the part number for U15 is correct, the voltages for U15 are way off. Same for U16. Now do you see the problem?--- begin sig file ---
