    Ripple current question

    Hi,

I am getting ready to order some caps and i had a question regarding ripple current.

I happen to be ordering my parts from digikey. I have three parts i am considering. The part i am replacing is a 3300uf/16V cap and it is located in the power supply section of one of the pcb boards.

The parts i am considering to order are as follows:
    http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...me=565-1298-ND

    http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...me=565-1565-ND

    http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...me=565-1971-ND

If you look at all three one is rated at 16V and the other two are rated at 25V. But all three have very different "ripple current" values. I am confused by what this value means. I know what ripple current is but what i dont get is what is ment by the value listed by digikey............is a high value good or is a low value good?

Also, do i gain anything by replacing 16V cap with a 25V cap or am i just wasting money?

    Re: Ripple current question

The higher the ripple current rating, the better. As far as voltage ratings go, higher voltage caps with the same capabilities tend to be larger so make sure they fit.
