Dell 1703fps 2 seonds to black

I've always liked these monitors, we have a bunch at work, no failures in 5 years. Got this one from my usual supplier.
Looks pretty well made. Seperate inverter board.
Testing it, only 1 set of lamps come on, using my known-good test lamps, they still don't come on in the top connectors, my lamps, and the monitor's lamps work fine for 2 secs in the lower connectors.

I suspect a bad transformer, or maybe a transistor on the inverter.
Not sure how I'm going to get the hard potting material off of the secondary side of the transformer....

Better photos and some measurements tomorrow when there's some light.
    Attached Files
36 Monitors, 3 TVs, 4 Laptops, 1 motherboard, 1 Printer, 1 iMac, 2 hard drive docks and one IP Phone repaired so far....

Before you scrape off that stuff, try testing U1/U3 or U4/U6 for shorts (which ever you call the top).

      Checked those, no shorts.
      Some measurements:
On the good side, the primary of the transformer T1, 1.8 ohms and 4 rings on the ring tester. Between the 2 red-circled points (possibly across the secondary of the transformer?) 689 ohms, 4 rings.

On the bad side, the primary of the transformer T2 1.8 ohms, no rings (appears shorted on the ring tester) between the 2 red-circled points 1.9 Megohms. So, smells like a transformer problem to me. Will try to remove the "stuff" and de-solder it for more accurate testing.

I agree. 1.9M ohm is high for the secondary.

What is the part number for the transformer?

          I agree, the transformer.
I replaced the inverter on my 1703FP 5 years ago, still works today - shame I gave it a pressure mark.

I turned it on & off so many times with the 'two seconds to black' issue, that a hole burned in the side of the transformer. That's how I found the cause of my problem

Looks like the part number is 0101NH06G
Haven't found anything but an entire board for $20.00 so far. More than the monitor is worth to me.

Had this problem to but took an inverter transformer off a dell 172
difference being that these are thro hole and the 1703 uses surface mount
but trimmed right they do fit but a deft bit of soldering required unless you are lucky enough to have a hot air station
not the prettiest of jobs but works the only real greif is removing the black glue from the transformer (hard as concrete)

That ‘GrayStuff' almost reminds me of a JB Weld type of product.
Wonder if a Dremel tool would work, to get down to the pins without damaging the pads?
Whatever I do, I consider it a success, if in the end I am breathing, seeing, feeling and hearing!

The entire board for $20 is a good deal compared to what I paid for mine 5 years ago!

Yes, but the monitor would have been worth it 5 years ago.

I'll shelve it for now and keep an eye out for a similar transformer on a "donor" monitor.

Dell G3 15 3500 - Battery bug (black screen and flashing keyboard backlight)
                      by HTR-Informatique
                      Hello,

YouTube video of the problem encountered: https://youtube.com/shorts/q7TLNv36LUo

I am a pro and I have a problem that I have never seen despite my 7.5 years of experience on my own and my thousands of repairs, on a customer's Dell G3 15 3500.

On this PC I have already changed the complete palmrest because the keyboard was no longer working properly.

I also changed the screen because the PC fell and the screen was broken.

I changed the battery with a new and original battery.

I also had corrosion/oxidation on the...

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
                      by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

dell e6540 boots to black screen (no dell logo)

                      good morning all,

i purchased a used dell e6540 laptop used 10 months ago from a vendor on ebay. intel i-7 processor, 16 gb ddr3 memory, 256 gb ssd., mobo la-9413p (rev 1.0 dated 2014-08-04). i've inflicted no damage on it since purchase but its past is unknown. starting 2 weeks ago it began to fail to boot (initially 9 of 10 boot attempts failed, now 10 of 10 fail). there was no new hardware or software added (i was using as a kodi video server). the post process doesn't complete and booting no longer displays the dell logo screen - screen remains black with no backlight. some other...

So I've had this monitor for probably a decade now, and it's finally starting to fail. Began with a little sporadic flickering, then eventually started going black (power LED stays blue, can still see image on screen with flashlight). A power on/off fixes it for a bit, but then it happens again. Once it got to the point I was dealing with this every few minutes, I opened it up and just replaced all the caps (minus the big one) on the power board with new Panasonic ones. All the old caps tested fine on an ESR meter, and this worked for 5 days. But the screen just went black again today, so...
