Re: Sony SDM-HS73 on for 2 seconds then off
Welschs101, in an earlier post you said you replaced the bulb. By this do you mean you replaced the CCFLs? If so, where did you get your replacement parts? Also, how easy were they to install. I have an SDM-HS73 that I'm trying to fix right now.

Re: Sony SDM-HS73 on for 2 seconds then off
Yesterday the parts arrived.
I put in the new 27K, 3Kv (blue caps) and I also removed old solder from the transformer and kinda cleaned it up a bit. THen i resoldered the transformer (the one in the inverter section).
AND IT WORKS! I have had it on now for about 20min and everything seems fine.
Thanks again bad caps!Leave a comment:

Re: Sony SDM-HS73 on for 2 seconds then off
Would this part work? It was under the "ceramic" category.

Re: Sony SDM-HS73 on for 2 seconds then off
I think at this point i dont really have anything else that i know to try. So what i was thinking was replace the bulb.....which i just did...........replace the bad burnt caps, resolder the transformer leads (which has helped in projects in the past) and turn on the monitor and see what information i can get.
But before i can do this i was wondering.........in an earlier post i mentioned i had "22J" caps but not "27K" caps.
PlainBill,
you said that i probablly could not use the "22J" caps to replace the "27K" caps........but could i use the "22J" caps just to power on the monitor and troubleshoot it a little more? WOuld that be ok you think?
1. The monitor works perfectly.
2. You get two seconds to black.
3. The transformer starts smoking.
Now in scenario 1 everybody is happy. In the other two scenarios the question is "Did this happen because I used the wrong cap?" If the results are scenario 2, no big deal, try using the right caps. In scenario 3, you will be facing the fact that you MIGHT just have ruined a transformer.
The correct caps are available from Digikey at $.28 each, minimum quantity of 5.

Re: Sony SDM-HS73 on for 2 seconds then off
see enclosed pics.
Between the two transformers are two devices.
Device A: International rectifier F7389
Device B: O2 Micro OZ960
I ohmed out the F7389 based on the datasheet (see enclosed) and it looks ok.
Not sure how to verify OZ960......
Any thoughts?Leave a comment:

i dont see any discoloration on the bulb connectors using a bright light and magnifying (sp?) glass.Leave a comment:

Re: Sony SDM-HS73 on for 2 seconds then off
2) For the secondaries, they are within 3%.
3) Both transformers show the same results so that implies both are "good".Leave a comment:

Re: Sony SDM-HS73 on for 2 seconds then off
One more question i thought of.
From the pics i sent out earlier you can see that there is one cap on each end of the inverter section just prior to the bulb connection that is "burned"..........but there are two caps at each end.........why is only one cap at each end burned........why not both?
Does anyone have any ideas?Leave a comment:

Re: Sony SDM-HS73 on for 2 seconds then off
Thanks. If you dont mind me asking what were you looking for in the data?
Also, the more i think about it the more i think it cant be the bulb.......or can it. Here is what i was thinking. I only found "one" bulb that was "bad". But yet two caps are bad. If only a single cap was bad and it matched the location of the bulb then i would think its the bulb but i dont.
What do you think?
Is there anything else i can check?Leave a comment:

Re: Sony SDM-HS73 on for 2 seconds then off
Thanks for the info on what caps do .....i will have to look up some info on this.
Regarding % tolerance. I see the "K" and "J" for 10% and 5% respectively. But what about the 27 and the 22..........what do they mean.
Took a while to make the measurements on the transformers T1 adn T2.
I entered data into excel and i am enclosing here as a picture.
Is this how you wanted it measured.

Re: Sony SDM-HS73 on for 2 seconds then off
a) Number the pins on the transformers anyway you like
b) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 2 - record ohm
c) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 3 - record ohm
d) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 4 - record ohm
e) etc
f) black probe on pin 1, red on pin last - record ohm
g) black probe on pin 2, red on pin 3 - record ohm
h) black probe on pin 2, red on pin 4 - record ohm
i) etc
j) black probe on pin 2, red on pin last - record ohm
k) black probe on pin 3, red on pin 4 - record ohm
l) etc
m) finally, black probe on pin last-1, red on pin last - record ohm
All transformers should match. Some will read 0.3 ohms which is normal.
If you have a ring tester, it would be a lot easier!Leave a comment:

by maudaI'm currently working on repairing a malfunctioning Sony TV model KD-65XE7005 with the mainboard 1-981-926-21. I would appreciate your assistance with this issue.
Upon powering on the TV, the Sony logo appears for approximately 3 seconds, after which the backlight remains lit, the screen remains black, and nothing else happens. The TV consumes around 55W initially and then drops to 35W. The indicator LED remains solid white. It doesn't respond to the remote control. When attempting to update the TV using a USB dongle, the dongle briefly flashes but nothing else happens.

by tec3000Hi community! Germany calling
I am wondering if you guys can help me out. I have an issue with my Sony LED TV. I've been told this is a good place to ask. Thanks for anyone who will reply and offer advice. Appreciated!
I have a KD-65X9005A Sony 4k LED TV. For a few weeks I've got this problem where I turn on the TV and within a few seconds the TV starts getting darker until it shuts itself off and I get the 4 blinking error code. HOWEVER there is one exception: Whenever I switch to the i-Manual, a full screen on-screen instruction manual, the TV never turns off. I tested for hours!... -

by odie34I am a hobbyist (not a professional) so please be gentle...
I recently received an XR-77A80J that wouldn't turn on. (Repeating 5 flashes when plugged in.)
I did a hard reset by holding the power button for about 30 seconds until the set powered down. I then tried to turn it on and it powered up, bringing me to the setup screen. There's not a lot of detail on the setup screen but the picture didn't have any distortions, so at least a cursory examination suggests no physical damage to the screen. The set appeared to be working normally, but it shut down after about 15 seconds,... - Loading...
