    Viewsonic Q19WB

Classic 2 second on then off. I can usually turn it on/off a few times and it'll eventually function normally. This morning I finally got tired of dealing with it and pulled the thing apart. Below is a high-res of the power board.

The only capacitor that was obviously bad was C815 (1000uF with blue coat in center) which had a bulging top. I swapped it out with Radioshack's finest (garbage) just to see if that was the problem. Now I get a grainulated picture with a heavy red tint but it does appear to be (somewhat) stable.

First and foremost, does anything else stick out as being a problem?

I would also like help in finding a real replacement for the 1000uF cap that was bad. The original has the following markings:
    Su'scon
    1000uF 25V
    0703(M)
    Rated for 105°C

Thanks for your time and I appreciate the help.

C818 is likely to be bad, but not bulging. Both C818 and C815 take the brunt of the heat from the diodes that are mounted on the heatsink.

Having said that, most here will recommend that you recap the entire board except the biggest capacitor which rarely, but not never, fails.

Capacitors die from age, heat, and shoddy build quality. Capacitors DO NOT have to be visibly bloated in order to bad. They can be out of tolerance uF (a 1000uF measures 20uF) and/or have high ESR (ohm). A multimeter will be insufficient to test for ESR. For that you need an ESR tester which costs between $50 and $300.

Most members here will recommend that you replace ALL capacitors with reputable brands from reputable sellers. Brands like Rubycon, Panasonic, and United Chemicon are suggested. A list of recommended caps can be found at

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2280

If you are in the USA, you can follow PlainBill's instructions on how to order Panasonic FM or FR caps. FC is the alternative if neither of the former are available. See

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...33&postcount=2

I'm guessing the entire order should be around $10 USD (that includes shipping if you choose USPS first class) and you should get it in about 48 hours.

PS. Try going into the monitor's menu and set everything back to factory defaults to see if the red goes away.

Woohoo! I have been waiting for you!!! I have had this board for some time, and thankfully we both have the exact revision, so let's help eachother out...

I need the capacitor values for the board because I took mine out and didn't document anything.

Can you visit this old post of mine, and identify them according to the picture, and then I will locate good replacements for both of us. What do you prefer, Mouser, Newark, or Digikey?

      Here is the post:
      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=12272
      (Scroll down to the bottom)

I need the Voltage, uF, Series, and diameter. The series is usually two letters.

You need to replace all of them, not just the one that is bulged.

They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

For thoroughness, below are the replacement parts for my model of Q19WB.

          12) http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...&name=P5543-ND

And the primary, if you're interested in replacing it too:
          http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...me=565-1481-ND

Highest length I went was 20mm, which is the height of the two larger heatsinks, so they should fit just fine.

On my board C701 is "Suscon SK" not "Teapo SH". I still have that one original on my board. Not to worry, they're both general purpose caps anyways, most likely interchangeable, all I had to do was either match or slightly exceed the ripple with a higher quality part.
          Again, many thanks mockingbird.

I replaced all but the biggest cap and reset the monitor settings but still have a heavy red hue.

            Any ideas?

Could the larger cap be causing that?

              I don't know...

Hmmm... I'm looking at the logic board... In this case I would go and replace the primary and also the little capacitors on the logic board. The reason I didn't tell you to do it is because it's very easy to destroy it with the iron. But if you want to, use the same caps for them as you did with the PSU. Match them with the appropriate part.

All of them are Su'Scon SK except for one Teapo SH.

Apply a little flux and 60/40 solder to each joint. The extra bit of solder will help spread the heat and coax the capacitor out. If you end up bridging two joints, use braid.

IIRC, last week someone had a similar problem and it turned out to be the VGA cable. Did you try another cable?

PS. A pinkish hue is a sign that your ccfl tubes are dying.

First thing I checked was the cable. Same problem using a different cable on a different computer.

Isn't the pinkish hue supposed to only affect white and bright colors? Is there any way to test the CCFLs without canniablizing another LCD?

                      No, it's nowhere near that.

Below is a pic of what it looks like. Note that the vertical bars are NOT present when a normal picture (ie my background) is on it and the background hue sort of flows from right to left.

Aside from a few flakey pixels that unstick with a light tap, the screen itself should be fine.

All were Panasonic. 10 were FM, 1 FR, 1 M.

Below are links to pics for my logic board. Due to size restrictions I've uploaded them offsite.

I noticed that several of them had sleeves that were pulling apart but you can barely tell. It should be visible in the top left in the 4th pic.

Ok found the problem. Got to looking and it appears I bent a pin for the video cable on the logic board

Having been down this route with warehouse-bought CPUs at work I'm pretty sure I can't fix it without a pin straighten tool, not without breaking it anyway.

                            Anywho, thanks for the help.

The pins are on the board, not on the cable. The cable should be a female connector.

Anyways, I got to looking at what you're speaking of, and you could fix this with a sewing needle. Be patient though.
