I need to order some 1000uf @ 16 volt it has to be 8mm in diameter what is a good choice

    I need to order some 1000uf @ 16 volt it has to be 8mm in diameter what is a good choice

    Here is the page of capacitors that I can choose from what is a good choice for a FSP 400-60GLC

    I try to use a 565-1664-ND which is a 10mm in diameter unfortunately it will not fit because there are two of them the same size and value and there is no room and they go to two different circuits not in parallel if that was the case I put a 2200uf @ 16 volt one in there and be done with it

    Even If I move the wire out of the way the coil is in the way and will push the diode lead right into the heat sink which would not be good

    I going to change all of the “FC” capacitors just in case something is wrong with them because of there age

      I would consider using a polymer cap 1,000uF or 1,200uF 16V 8mm dia (LS=3.5mm?) mainly because they have lower ESR 8mΩ verses 29mΩ and can take higher ripple current 7,500mA verses 1,500mA (ZLH).

      Or... I have stuffed in 10mm parts but let them sit high above the board, you have height room.

        polymer rarely works in switching psu's - the ultra-low esr is often mistaken for an overload
        no harm trying though.
        otherwise panasonic FR comes in 8x20mm

          They are usually undersized in the first place in these PSU's. I think one of those caps is for the -12V rail and not critical, muh RS-232 driver lol.
          The FR ESR is 30mΩ and 1,560mA ripple current which isn't much for the +12V rail for any cap really. Surely there are a few in parallel for that. Sam should see what rails they are for and why the new FC smoked, maybe too much ripple current.

          I'm saying the caps are too small in the first place, upsizing them and/or going for polymer low ESR is pretty much mandatory. And this board is for six different models/power ratings - How do you pull that off in the same amount of room Mr. FSP?
          All my newer PC PSU use polymers to get the 7 year warranty. Fingers crossed.

            if a cap explodes i would check none of the diodes have shorted and hit the cap with high frequency AC

              It's always when I put them in backwards lol. So many distractions. Now I double-check polarity and put a red felt pen mark on the top of a cap to show I've checked that, it also tells me I've replaced that.
