Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case

Hey guys...I have removed the four screws, tried prying on all four sides....inserting putty knives to hold each side open while working on the next side and nothing seems to work. Is there something else keeping this case closed?

There's another screw at the back of the screen menu buttons.

I guess I should tell you why I'm trying to get inside...I was given this monitor because it quit. When you turn it on the Acer logo comes on for a second or so then the screen goes black. The power light stays green. Using a flashlight I cannot see anything on the screen so I want to look at the components but I can't get it open.

Sorry...I did take that little silver one out also that was at the back of the menu screen. I should have included that info on the first post

After the screws are removed from the back, I used a flat screw driver to get a

small gap on one corner and just open it with my hands. It feels like its going to

break but it doesn't. I still have that same problem but the green light turns

amber about 2 seconds after the logo shows up.

I can get a big gap all the way around but it refuses to open....there has to be something else holding it.

The Service Manual can be found here. They usually show how to disassemble it.

Look under stickers for screws. [Find soft spot with finger.]
Look under brakets if not off.
Also check that the jack-screws [see pic] are not holding it together.

Ok got it...there is a small plastic cover over the area where the stand attaches to the computer. This cover pops off and there are four more screws holding the stand and the cover in place. With those screws out, the cover easily comes open. Now for the tough part...........

Re: Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case

Now that the monitor is open I can see the three circuit boards....the main board...the power board and the inverter board. I do not see any caps exhibiting bulging or leaking. It does look like the caps on the inverter board board have been replaced because the soldering looks like hand soldering rather then machine soldering.

Any suggestions as to where to go next?

on the new caps is the solder touching each other?

Take a picture of the power board with the metal plate off of it. There's lots of stuff being hidden under there.

nope....even though it looks close, my meter says they are not touching.

I would change the ten caps they have been off but they dont look new

You have the 'Two seconds to black' problem. Possible causes bad CCFLs, bad wiring to the CCFLs, bad caps, bad transformer, bad drivers, etc.

Tentatively we will assume the caps are fine. I would like good sharp pictures of the inverter, top and bottom. Also, what is the part number of the IC directly above the connector?

The IC directly above the connector has 3 lines of numbers stamped on it
                                      First line: 0Z9925GN
                                      Second Line: 51597741G
                                      Third line: 0530A

I did not take any pictures of the back side of the inverter board because the board is a surface mount board. It only has circuitry on the back, no components or thru holes

With all due respect, someone who is trying to help you has asked for specific items. If you expect him to continue helping, it might be in your best interest to supply those items. He may want to see the traces on the backside to see what's connected to what.

P.S. Those are some great pics!
