I was given a Viewsonic VP211b non-working monitor. The screen was black and the power light would not come on.
I re-capped the power supply board and the power light now comes on but the video is bad. Faint vertical lines for a few seconds then goes black.
I'm going to scrap it unless someone needs something from it. The PS board also works in a VP201b monitor.

Re: Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case
Sorry..... I had to delay this repair because of some more important work....but I will be back at it tomorrow

Re: Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case
I'm using a Fluke digital DMM so there are no range settings. After I test one pin I need to turn the monitor off and wait about 30 seconds or the backlights won't come on for those short two seconds. I don't understand that either. I will continue the test when my assistant returns tomorrow...Thanks for the help so far

Re: Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case
Am I performing test 2 and 3 correctly?........at the capacitor I'm reading about .8 VAC when the Acer logo comes on and about .35 VAC at pin 1. Doesn't seem right to me so before I continue I'm asking you. Thanks

Re: Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case
The 3 plated screw holes at the bottom of the board seem to be common to the ground plane (at least they are common to pins 6-10 on the input connector) but not the 3 screw holes at the top of the board

Re: Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case
Ok..I have completed the first step. I numbered the transformers T1 to T12, 1 being on the far left and 12 being the far right. I made and attached a pdf file of the resistance values I measured.
I will have to wait until later for the second step to have someone available to help.
When measuring the voltage, where is the best ground on the board? I was thinking of using pins 6, 7. 8 .9 or 10 on the input connector...

Re: Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case
There seems to be six backlight tubes used....there are six output connectors on the board.......are you saying that if one is not working they all will not be working?...

Yes...you are correct...it was a bad assumption on my part....thanks for pointing that out...

Re: Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case
The IC directly above the connector has 3 lines of numbers stamped on it
First line: 0Z9925GN
Second Line: 51597741G
Third line: 0530A
I did not take any pictures of the back side of the inverter board because the board is a surface mount board. It only has circuitry on the back, no components or thru holes...

Here are two pictures of the Power Board with the cover removed...

Q4 & Q4 on the inverter board look good...no evidence of ever getting hot

nope....even though it looks close, my meter says they are not touching.

Re: Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case
Now that the monitor is open I can see the three circuit boards....the main board...the power board and the inverter board. I do not see any caps exhibiting bulging or leaking. It does look like the caps on the inverter board board have been replaced because the soldering looks like hand soldering rather then machine soldering.
Any suggestions as to where to go next?...

Re: Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case
Ok got it...there is a small plastic cover over the area where the stand attaches to the computer. This cover pops off and there are four more screws holding the stand and the cover in place. With those screws out, the cover easily comes open. Now for the tough part...........

Re: Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case
I can get a big gap all the way around but it refuses to open....there has to be something else holding it.

Re: Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case
I guess I should tell you why I'm trying to get inside...I was given this monitor because it quit. When you turn it on the Acer logo comes on for a second or so then the screen goes black. The power light stays green. Using a flashlight I cannot see anything on the screen so I want to look at the components but I can't get it open.

Can't seem to open Acer AL2416W case
Hey guys...I have removed the four screws, tried prying on all four sides....inserting putty knives to hold each side open while working on the next side and nothing seems to work. Is there something else keeping this case closed?
